Services are designed to be system-wide so it doesn't matter who logs on or if anyone is logged on, they should always load. Also IMHO, if your system is semi-decent, unloading system services won't yield much of a performence gain.

Ultimate Slipstream Guide (almost)

Quote: The "English" ver of XP Pro so you understand why it doesn't say the same language? Do you mean that you do NOT understand why? Is your copy of XP Pro the US ver? Is your copy of XP Pro the 32bit ver? Is your copy of SP1 the US ver? Is your copy of SP1 the 32bit ver? What OS are you using to create the slipstream? That may have something to do with it. -

Copying from partition to partition is always slow because the drive has to read and then reposition the heads and then write and so forth. Puts a lot of load on the drive. Hope that tells you what you wanted to know

Anyone noticed that it arranges the playlist in a very unusual order. But in general, RC1 is a lot faster and the taskbar player is a hell of a lot faster.

Cheaper NICs also depend on free CPU time for performence. BTW what NICs are in use and any hubs and switches? -
IMHO 512MB isn't a huge amount with Windows XP.

Any hardware changes when you reinstalled? Even anything minor like change master/slave settings on drive? -
Trying to work out whats better. I have a feeling it's the Vibra 128 but I'm not 100% sure.
-
I guess I'll stick with the Vibra 128. It's not like I'll have a shortage of PCI slots
-
Nah, It's an ATX. I can see the ports on the back of the case/board.

Best program/settings to use for capturing from vidcam?
Champion_R replied to pr-man's topic in Software
iuVCR http://www.iulabs.com Fly2000TV http://auzol.narod.mu/index_e.html Both use WDM drivers, VirtualDub cannot so it's a bad choice for capture under modern OSes. -
2pass XViD is damn good. Windows Media Video 9 seems bloody good except I can't really test it cos my PC is too slow.

MSN uses ports 6891 to 6900 for file transfers.

I've read that that board is picky with power supplies

win2k acting as a server goes down without reason or warning

Disks only get scanned if they are FAT32. NTFS drives aren't usually Chkdsked on bootup after a bad shutdown. -
IRQs cannot be assigned when the OS is running with ACPI Power management. However if the OS is run with APM power management IRQs can be assigned. Changing this requires a reinstall of the OS and I think it's F6 at the start of setup to set the Power Management mode.
-
If C: is FAT32 it should be no problem. If it's NTFS I'm not too sure.

Stuff disappearing from Systray, SP1 bug?
Champion_R replied to Admiral LSD's topic in Everything New Technology
I've found that draging the taskbar offscreen and back on screen makes the icons come back if they disappear. Rarely happens tho
