Thats what I wanted to hear

I'm planning of picking one of those up myself. There's a review on Toms Hardware of this board and it runs stable. I've also read good things about it. Very good value for money at AUD$109 but if any overclocking is planned I wouldn't bother because this board lacks overclocking features. P.S. IMHO I'd take my chances with anything over a VIA based board. I own a VIA 693A board now and it's hellish to say the least.

It ain't the board. Ive seen XP SP1 run on that board.

I think my new HD is running at ATA66...how do I verify ??
Champion_R replied to Klark's topic in Hardware
Drive is capable of UDMA mode 6. I can't see it hurting the drive. Anyways it's meant to be a UDMA mode 4 controller and it's in mode 3. 20MB/sec burst rate so I kinda wanna try and increase the UDMA mode to see if it improves the speed of the controller. -

Is there a similar hack for enabling UDMA Mode 4. My controller is UDMA mode 4 but my HDD is only running in UDMA mode 3 -
I use WMP9 mainly for audio and it's sweet. WMP toolbar can be sluggish on my system but other than that, it's sweet. P.S. My DivX files appaear the correct length

SiSoft Sandra will tell you what ATA mode it is using. If you want to test the speed, try HDTach. -
You could write a BAT file to run subst and place it in the startup folder on the start menu

Disk Cache takes all memory when copying large files
Champion_R posted a topic in Customization & Tweaking
This is under Windows XP. I find that when I copy larger files and also running programs, all my memory is used on the disk cache and all programs are paged to disk. Anyone know of the fault and/or a workaround? -
Disk Cache takes all memory when copying large files
Champion_R replied to Champion_R's topic in Customization & Tweaking
That seems to help a lot. Once I find out what the best settings for my amount of memory are, I should have it working the way I want it. Thanks -
Anybody know how to do it.

Already tried that. BTW it defaults to programs over system cache. -
I have bad memories of my Novell class. We ran both a Netware 5 server and Win98 client under VMware on P3-450s with 256MB ram. It was painful. On top of that we only had 105 mins a week of class time.

9x vs 2000Pro vs XP Home - Simulation Benchmarks
Champion_R replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
Did they benchmark the fact that you have to reboot after switching between games when using Win9x or the fact that games have a tendancy to crash. Then you have to add the fact that I've had friends lose saved games under FAT32. Does a few extra fps justify the use a POS OS like the win9x series? -
Configure Xp to smooth on a 450..

You'll need more RAM, I assure you. I tried running Win XP on 96MB of RAM. It was horrible. OSes are usually RAM intensive not processor. -

When I brought my FlyVideo 2000, the guy in the computer store said I wouldn't be able to capture with it. He said I would need the FlyVideo 3000 (which was AUD$50 more expensive). The only difference between the two is that the 3000 has a stereo tuner. Everyone has their fair share of smartarses. I remeber one guy back in high school. He thought he was top. LOL he used to use Drivespace on floppies and store ZIP files on them. -
Anyone know how to get this to run under Windows XP while running under Limited User permissions?

Don't quote me on this but I think if the sound card drivers are WDM you can play multiple sounds at once. If not you can't. I used to have my Vibra 128 under Windows 98 and it couldn't play multiple sounds at once with the drivers on the CD. The provided drivers in Windows 2000 and XP and the ones from creative for Windows 2000/XP can play multiple sounds at once. Also the provided ME drivers can too.

is there an APM tab in the power control panel. Also check if you are even using APM power management.
-
If your system isn't detected as ACPI complient, you will have to go into power control panel and enable APM power management. Had to do this for a friends computer to enable auto turn off.
