When playing Starlancer with 3d sound turned to eax with my sb live card, it crashes back to the desktop. I've installed the lastest sb live drivers (the xp update ones and tried it with the ones that come with windows xp) and it still happens. The funny thing is though that with 3d sound switched off it works just fine, but it sounds alot better with 3d sound switched on. Does anybody have a solution to this problem? Thanks TEL

I have ACPI disabled and have 'standard pc' instailled in the system properties. I was wondering if there is any when you close down windows xp of making the pc switch off automatically when you have APCI disabled? At the moment I get the 'It's safe to turn off your pc' message and have to power down with the on/off switch. Thanks TEL

alcatel usb modem problems in xp
telthenipper replied to iluvekrystle's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Never heard of that mobo mate Have you tried disabling the power saving features on the usb hub and the and the network adapters, in device manager? Is your system overclocked? As I said in my previous post the modem is drawing a lot of power (500mA) from the usb port and so the port shuts down to protect your PC. You may have to us a powered usb hub to supply more power. also check out the forums on this site http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ Thanks Tel -
alcatel usb modem problems in xp
telthenipper replied to iluvekrystle's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I have an alcatel modem and a via chipset mobo (abit kt7r) there is a know poblem with the frog and via chipset mobos with the usb port not supplying enough power to the modem. Make sure you only have the frog on the usb port. In the system properties( device manager), disable power saving for the the usb hub and the network adapter. enable 'enhance chipset performance in the bios and make sure the bios doesn't assign a irq to the usb port If none of the above works get a belkin usb card or a powered usb hub I can not be more specific as I don't know which mobo you have. maybe you could post back with the mobo you have, and maybe able to help more ok Thanks TEL -
Hello all. I've got this weird problem. On my C drive where Windows XP is installed, the free space seems to be gobbled up after a few hours of use. I have XP installed on a 6.88 gb partition, and I should have 2.75 gb free, but after some hours of use the windows folder seems to swell in size for no apparent reason. As I write this I have only 264mb left free, and the windows folder has swelled to 4.51 gb!!! if I run Nortons Disk doctor I tells me to reboot, and does it's stuff and then everythings back to normal. As I run my own server, I cannot keep running disk doctor and rebooting. Does anybody know why this happening? I'm using Devils own corp editon Of Windows XP Thanks in advance Tel

HI yer folks. I just want to say thanks for all your help to you guys. I done a clean install of Windows XP and that seems to have cured the problem. When I installed XP originally, I upgraded from a previous version (beta 2505) and that may have been the problem. I have done a search for files and folders on my c drive and there is no sign of trace.log. Thanks TEL

I think I've solve the mystery I noticed that there's a log file that keeps growing: c:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\WMI\trace.log Old date: 10/28/2001 3:04 AM New date: 10/28/2001 3:04 AM Old size: 66,256,896 bytes New size: 1,425,932,288 bytes I've tried to delete the log file but windows won't let me, saying that it's been used by another program. I've never seen a log file that big and growing. I've also booted in to dos and deleted it, but when I reboot it comes back. I've also changed it's attributes to read only so it wouldn't keep getting written to but that hasn't helped. Does anybody a) Know what the log file is for? and What program uses it? and c) How do I delete it for good? thanks Tel
