This sound card wont work properly. Its the card that has 2 line outs on the back, one mic jack, and one line in jack.... now the problem im having is i cant get it to output to four speakers.. i have to sets of speakers. and the one set pluged into line out #1 works fine, but the ones on line out #2 nothing comes out of them. then when i switch them on the back, the other set of speakers work and then the others dont. so i know its not my speakers, its the sound card its self. i have tried to set in the sound card properties, in the speaker settings, under advanced, i changed it to quadraphonic speakers, still no luck. I also downloaded the latest drivers for that card under xp.. and still nothing........... help!!! Thanx, Masterfinn

Hey All, ok to start off with i have this LG GCE-8320B CDRW 32X10X40 INT driver and im having problems under XP. Im using Nero version 5.5.3.5 and i cant not get it to work. It wont recognize the drive in Nero at all. I treid looking on the net to see if there was drivers or firmware for the burner but i had no luck. Does anyone know if there are problems with this burner and Nero? or with WinXP? Also in device manager all channels are in DMA mode, umm.... and when you go in nero and go to write, copy or burn image ... before the burning is "supposed" to start it asks if you want to save the image file...if you say no it aborts the burning proccess but if you say yes it makes an image with extension .nrg and then it quits.. with nothing writen to the cd. Also in nero under "cd-recorder" and then "choose recorder" the LG burner doesnt show up, so thats were i came up with the idea that maby nero just isnt picking up the burner correctly. Or maby its XP im not sure. I have used nero with all sorts of burners and never had this type of problem. Any help would be great Thanx, Masterfinn

This is the problem im having in my home network. i have two 98 machines connected to a hub connected to the XP box acting as a server provideing sharred internet access. Internet access works fine on all machines, and the two 98 machines can see eachother and share files, but they cant see the XP box, or vice versa. I have file and print sharring on all of the comps and files that are shared. On the XP box i created two accounts with passwords so that when i start up the 98 boxes i login to them with those same names and passwords. ( this is i guess how i am supposed to do it, as i have already done this set up with a 2K box and got it to work). anyways, i also turned the guest account on and still nothing. They are all in the same workgroup. TCP/IP is on all. And i first had "NetBIOS over TCP/IP" disabled and that did nothing so then i enabled it and still nothing. Under XP when i go to "my network places - entire network - microsoft windows network" then into the workgroup "home" i get the error: Home is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this netork resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available. I tried making it part of another work group name such as "home2" and changed the 98 ones to "home2" as well but still nothing. Any suggestions would be great thanx, Masterfinn

Ok ya, my Xp firewall on my nic was always disabled, so no problem there. Now also when you talk abouit the lmhost file for each machine can you give me info on how to edit that file and an example. i have treid researching it on the net, but no luck. The best i have is this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q180094 I dont quite understand it though. Also when you say i should go on the XP box to "local policy and setup logging for logon attempts" where exactly is that? i cant seem to find it thanx, Masterfinn

ya well i have all the setting for my nic's correct and internet connection sharring is working fine. I just want to be able to see the other pc's now to share files. I also tried running the "setup a small home or office network" wizard, but it gave me an error saying it could not complete it....????????? could this be an issue?...... im sure you should be able to set it up manually.... Hey ALL!!! Kay i want to set up a home network. I have one kinda set up right now my configuration is: I have three computers. I have them all hooked together through a hub and then finally connected to the hub is the internet. So basically the hub is acting like a "splitter" for the internet line so we can all have internet on the three machines. Now i was thinking of setting it up so that: two computers are hooked together through the hub which is then connected to the third computer which will act as the server then from there it will be connected to the interent. Now what my question is, is what way is best? and if i keep the first configuration all the computers can use internet but we cant make a connection to see eachothers computer or can we??? Also with the second configuration, the only problem that i have is that i would need to put two NIC cards in the "server" machine right? one for the hub to connect into it and one for the internet going out and also that computer has to be on all the time in order for the other two to access the internet right??? Any suggestions would be great or if you have another way i can set this up that would be awesome thanx Masterfinn

ok i finally got the third computer working and it connects to the net fine. it was just some silly simple thing i over looked that i didnt take into consideration, but thats just how it goes eh. the only problem im having now is over the local intranet my XP machine cant see the other two which have 98sE or vise versa. The two 98 machines can see each other fine. I have certain files shared and i have it all set up in my network properties... still nothing.....Any suggestions? Masterfinn

Hey me again kay i got one on the net, and the other wont go on the net for some reason..??? same settings as the other one but just a 3 at the end of the ip as you all say. Also when i go on the other computers do i have to "login" like with a name and password to have access or what? ... also if i wanted to make my computer a "domain" so that if i wanted to set up the other two computers to log in to a domain you know? with a name and password...... i dont know thanx Masterfinn

Im having troubles installing two of these controllers on my computer. I have them both hooked up on the same game port on my sound card. If you know about the gamepad pros the have port on the back of the other port of the controller so you can plug another joystick in the back of that one once you hook that one to your computer. My problem is that it will only recoginze the one controller and does not allow me to have two on the same port. I just resently switched over to WinXP and i had no troubles getting the two controllers to work under Win2k or Win98SE. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated Thanx, Masterfinn

First of all, what kind of problems was this system having, cause i dont think its a firewall issue here? ALSO though..........when you say you enabled the software firewall that came with XP, did you mean the "internet connection firewall" in the network settings? Yes, If you enable that on a home network it will not allow you to see the other computers. It says this in the help in XP under "internet connection firewall". The help states its only a good firewall if you have one single computer connected to the net alone. This is true in some terms. As it still interfears with some apps accessing the interent that you might not want blocked. (In my case i had a bad experience with it blocking ppl's access to my FTP so i disabled it and it works fine now. And i then got just a norton firewall program to protect my system). Masterfinn

I want to set up my home network. Right now im just using a basic hub that sucks, and I want to improve it. I was woundering about: Routers Switches Hubs Gateways I was just woundering the full potential of each, and what the disadvantages/advantages of each, or the differences. This way i know which to get for my home network. I have three computers, one laser printer i would like to share, and a scanner. Also be able to see another computer in my network to share files.(with the hub i have now i cant do that). Thanx, Masterfinn
-
Ok ya, My first configuration for my home network was: - all three computers connected to the hub which was then connected to the internet. With this i couldnt share files, or printers, etc.. so i changed it to waht i have now.. which is: - two computers hoooked into the hub which is then hooked to the third computer which is also connected to the net. With this way i can share files, and printers and stuff, and is working great, but i just have to keep that one computer on all the time, and i dotn think its securely firewalled.( i just have a norton firewall program protecting it). I was just woundering about Routers and Switchs to see if there was a way i could set up my network a better or more efficient way. So with a router i could have all three computers connected to it which is then connected to the net, and i could also share files etc right?. But i know with a hub if i try to connect all three computers to it then out to the net, sure i can get internet access on all three, but i wouldnt be able to share files, etc.... which was were i had promlems with my first configuration. I know routers are expencive, and it looks like if i do want to change how i have my set up i ll have to get one. But i dont know what im going to do right now. Thats why i posted this post, cause i wanted to see the differance and stuff of all those networking gear out there. I might end up jsut keeping it the way i have it now, but.... like i say i dont know yet. Masterfinn

OK OK So a routher/gateway connects all sorts of networks together, and those networks are made up of say a bunch of computers hooked up using switchs or hubs right??.......So whats the difference then in say hooking three computers to a switch connected to the internet, or haveing those three computers hooked to a router/gateway connected to the net? what would be more ideal for my home network with my three computers, printer, and scanner? Thanx, Masterfinn

I have just put on 4 new user accounts on my XP box. My account is the only admin one, and the other are limited accounts. Now I want to set permissions on certain folders that the other accounts can not access. I try right clicking them, then in the properties under the sharring tab, were it says "to make this folder privite, so that only you can access it check the box" but its all 'greyed out' so I cant check it off to set permissions. Any idea how I can set permissions on certain folders in XP? Thanx, Masterfinn

Ya i have no worry about that floppy stuff your talking about, and as for Paolo, when i said that about the FTP i was talking about say ppl not in my home network accessing it, within a home network its fine, but everything now is straighted out for me and i beleive i have a good understanding of NTFS and permissions and stuff, and i thank all you ppl for the help. Thanx, Masterfinn
-
So everything i have been hearing here is nothing but good for NTFS, and that i do indeed need it for my permission setups. Also i can see it is very secure, and that the OS handles all the disk access for programs and games and that they will all run great weither I have a FAT32 or NTFS system. I guess now, when i decide to, i can switch my system over to NTFS, and tweak it to perfection, jsut the way i like it. A big Thank you, goes out to everyone helping me on this, Masterfinn

it sure sounds like NTFS is they way to go. i knew that Win9x coudnt access it, but i dont really know everything, like say i had an FTP set up on a NTFS partition, and a person on a Win9x box tried to access that FTP would they be able to see it? or access it? Or if some of my games or programs said they were WinXP complient. is that WinXP NTFS or/and WinXP FAT32? also if some of my older games that i love playing that work great now on XP in FAT32 whats the chance they will still work on the NTFS platform? thanx, Masterfinn
