Ok so it looks like ill have to change my whole system to NTFS. I dont know if i want to though cause i dotn know if all the stuff on my computer will work good on an NTFS platform. IS there any other advantages/disadvatages or NTFS to FAT32 that i should know about before switching over? I guess i did run Win2K before and had no problems, but i dont know about XP. Thanx, Masterfinn

Ya i know i can just make only the partitions that i want to NTFS, but what i want to know is, ... say i have my main primary partition as NTFS and the other 3 as FAT32. Will i still be able to set the permissions on those other three partitions? or just on the one that is NTFS? Masterfinn

Ya, when i try to install just one to start off with, I plug in into my sound card (a creative sound blaster Ensoniq audioPCI). Now when i plug it in nothing happens. Then i do a reboot, to see if Windows XP will pick it up. Still nothing. Then i try to do a manually install it under add new hard ware, using the drivers i got off the net. and still it wont recognize it. Im stuck............ Masterfinn

ya i figured that i needed to have NTFS file system. I will probably switch over to that, so i can set permission and stuff, rather then getting an ecryption program as you say. I was thinking about doing a reformat and clean install of my hard drive some time soon anyways, so now when i do that i can just redoo it as NTFS so that i can have multiple users with all the permissions that i want. BUT before i do that. I have a question. I have my 40G hard drive in 4 partions, now do i have to put my whole hard drive as NTFS? or just the primary partion? Thanx, Masterfinn

Ya Suma, i tired what you said, and it let me set the permissions and i tinkered with it for a while, but after i set the permissions i went in on other account and i could still access those folders completely. So im not to sure if im doing something wrong or what?.. anywyas... Also, Alien, i have my system as FAT32 right now, and to me that seems like it would be the problem, but you should be able to set permissions without having it as NTFS, but i dont know. Ill have to look into it, or if any one out there knows, let me know. Thanx, Masterfinn

Me again, I am again haveing this problem with these two Gravis Game pad Pro's. My Xp machine will not pick them up when i connect them to my computer even with a reboot. And when i try to install it through add new hardware useing drivers off gravis's site, I was installing them as a "sound, video, game controller" then when it asked what kind i said "have disk" then went on my hard drive to find the appropreate *.inf file and picked my type of controller from the list and when i hit ok.. it says " an error occured durring the installation of this device" and it has the device listed as "MEDIA" not my game pad pro... Also in the control panel under gameing deivces in this case it always says... 6 button controller... then always "not connected"... Im thinking of going to go out and buying new USB ones, but i dont want these 3 (sound card plugged into ones) to goto waste, they all worked on my 98SE machine but never on my xp..

Im running the file sharing program Kazaa, that Im sure you are all aware of. Now everytime I have it running even if Im not connected or downloading anything the program uses 99% of my cpu time. This slows down my comptuer so much that I cant do anything else on it. Is anyone else having this problem, or anyone know why this is. Thanx, Masterfinn
-
Ok i have uninstalled all my old Kazaa stuff, and i got the Kazaa lite version. So far it is working great. according to my task manger it is no longer taking up 99% of my cpu its at like 5% most Thanx, alot. i hope this stays like this, cause now i can do stuff on my computer while having Kazaa open and it wont slow anythign down Thanx, again Masterfinn

Now im not an idiot and I have looked in every single place in the display properties and i cant seem to find it, or anywere else on my computer for that matter. This is probably a dumb question but can anyone out there tell me how to set a screen saver password on my computer. Im running WinXP Proffesional, and i dont have any fancy screen savers or anything. Thanx, Masterfinn

Ya see thats what i thought to.. but its not there. the only check box that it has is "display welcome screen on resume"... nothing about password. I dont know whats going on.. Masterfinn

Well you will all be happy to know that i got it working. I set up the wirring first then i made sure that the "server" machine was able to hook up to the internet fine and stuff. Then i fired up the other two machines changed the settings as you said with the gateway and stuff. and it worked. The only thing i had to do was alo sharring on the server machine with the internet and stuff, and set up my firewall on that machine to alow access in and out you know.. other then that it seems to be working ok.. thanks for all your help Masterfinn

I have had this game installed on my windows xp box for along time and i have yet to see a problem, and i dont have powerfull GF3 either. My first geuss would be hard were but seeing as you have a GF3 and i bet your system is very good also i dont think that would be it anymore. What i would look into is if there are any other programs running on the background of your comptuer at the time that could "bump" you out so to speak. try making sure in the taskmanger that nothign else is running then try it to see if it still crashes. If you stil have problems then i would go with the hardware issue. Is it the original CD or a copy of the game? Masterfinn

Ok so they have to have differnet ip's ok that sounds ok to me. But in my case i cant just make up ip's like that one after another i have to get them from my ISP and i have to get another one i guess. Butits just the gateway i have to set up on thoes two machines as the ip address as the computer directly connected to the internet. I dont really know how to set up all the sharring between all three. cuase i know you dont just hook it all up and it just works all fine there are some settings or ill have to set or some internet connection changes or something eh?.. well i have an idea but i dont know if it will all work. I guess ill just have to play with it to see. Thanx for all your help!! Masterfinn

Also, kay i understand that i need to put in a gateway on the two computers that arent directly connected to the internet and make it the ip address of the one that is. Now is there any other network configuration that i need to do on those computers. Like what about the ip addresses of the the two computers that arent directly connected to the internet, should they both have the same ip addresses now? or should i just leave them differnet. Thanx Masterfinn

Thanks, Ya it sounds like that would be a good way to set up the network. I was acutally going to buy a rounter or switch but they are more exspensive so i just got a cheap hub. it seems to be working ok. Now if i hook up my network like the way you say is it easy for me to set up sharing so we can see each others computer? The "server" machine the one with two NIC's will have Windows XP on it and the other two have Win98. Also is there anyway i can set this kind of sharing up with my current network configuration or do i have to switch it to that second one... either way im going to switch it to what you say.. it sounds alot better. Thanx, Masterfinn

I am trying to host a website on my computer, which I am running XP on. Now I know in order to do this you have to do something with IIS or PWS or something right? I just cant seem to figure it out. I just want to run a webpage off my personal computer. Now I should probably have my partion with the webpage on it in the NTFS mode right for security, and on top of that I already have a firewall set up. I just need to know how I would actually go about makeing my webpage available on the internet through my computer. And suggestions will be great!! Thanx, Masterfinn

OK everything Im sure is working, but everytime I try to go in the "Computer Management" -> "Services and Applications" -> "IIS" section, as soon as I click on the IIS part, the cursor goes to the good ol hour glass and never gets back. I eventually have to end task in the task manager to get out of it. I dont konw why this is. I first added the IIS stuff and it did this. Then I tried to just get rid of all the IIS stuff all together and reinstall it, but that didnt help. I bet its just cuase my computer is a bag of a**, Im running, an Athlon 1.2Ghz and 512MB of RAM so I dont know, the only thing I know is that my hard drive is giveing my troubles so that could be it.... who knows........ oh well. Thanx, for all the help though Masterfinn

Ya I have to one controller recognized and working but for some reason it doesnt recognize the second one attached to it. The are both newer controllers and work fine on my other computer running Win98SE. Also I have tried to switch them around to see it was just the connectors on the one controller but its the same thing. Masterfinn
