    Medal of Honor

sapiens26: I had the tearing problem as well. The game seems to default with v-sync off on some machines. Go to the MOHAA MAIN directory and open up the file called NEWCONFIG.CFG and add the following: seta r_swapinterval 1 That should enable v-sync and get rid of the tearing. Frame rates might drop a little bit I suppose, but I imagine the game will look much nicer.

    ATI TV Wonder (new problem)

Well I posted to ***** before really looking at the problem. It was easy enough to fix after looking through Windows device manager. Windows update recognizes ATI TV tuner as another manufacturers card (Conexant Media or some such) and replaces two ATI drivers with Conexant. You just have to reinstall the ATI drivers and everything should be back and working in the so-so way ATI had them. Btw, you'll really have to force Windows XP to use the old ATI drivers. It will constantly try to install the Conexant drivers since they're certified and ATI's aren't. Anyhow, if you have an ATI TV wonder, DON'T download the Conexant drivers like I did and save yourself a headache.

    ATI TV Wonder (new problem)

Since ATI hasn't released any drivers for Windows XP, I've been using their old 7.1 set released for Win2k back in July. I've had to use the trick of changing color depth or bringing up a menu to get a non-garbled screen image, but otherwise the drivers seem to be alright for basic use. Anyhow, today I went and downloaded some driver updates from the Windows Update site and once again my ATI Tv Wonder (PCI) is non-functional. Here are the driver updates I downloaded: - Conexant Media Driver Version 5.2.9.0 - Promise Technology Scsiadapter Driver Version 2.0.0.31 I'm guessing it must be the conexant media driver that has messed everything up. The TV tuner will still load, but now it takes a very, very long time and once it does there is no audio whatsoever. Image still seems to be fine, but audio is gone. Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?
  4. Btw, the game should be in most stores today (Tuesday, Nov. 20th). Activision managed to get it out a day early.

    TNT2 TV-Out, WinDVD and a big TV

The problem is that your TNT card doesn't have Macrovision (I doubt that it does anyhow). WinDVD checks to see if your video card has Macrovision, if not, no TV out. Here is the quote from the WinDVD page: "Our software will not allow playback of DVDs with graphic boards that contain a TV out component unless they use Macrovision to prevent the creation of an illegal copy of the DVD title."

Ton Clancy Ghost Recon Demo out

I was looking at the Ghost Recon support page and some people say they're still having the problem with the latest Creative drivers. Btw, I think Creative recommends you use their drivers versus the Microsoft ones. The Microsoft driver is a fix for a memory leak with their SB drivers. I still have to wait until the end of the month for the lastest Creative drivers of my model of SbLive.

Ton Clancy Ghost Recon Demo out

Randy, I have the same audio problem in buildings. Almost sounds like audio feeback. Creative still hasn't released the final drivers for my SbLive card though (I have the CT4620 model) so I'm hoping that will solve the problem once they're released. Do you have the right drivers for your SbLive card?

    Max Payne (XP) Problems!

The game is running fine for me with the latest nvidia drivers but once I (*caution spoiler ahead*) shoot the antenna down onto the helicopter the game crashes before the conclusion cutscene plays. Are you guys running in Win98 compat mode or just pure XP?

    WinDVD 3.1

Can't really help you with the problem but I do have a recommendation. I'm using WinDVD 2.3 and think its the best version. While it was never officially released, you should be able to find it online somewhere and the registration code with your official version should work fine with it. 2.3 has DTS audio support (something that wasn't included until version 3.0) but has the better video quality of 2.0 (in version 3.0 they dropped some video features to improve playback speed, but at a reduced video quality). It works fine for me as well under WinXP. Thunderbird 850 A7V Mobo + 512 RAM Asus Geforce3 Sb Live!

For Games: XP Home vs XP Professional

I really doubt there would be any noticeable difference. As Four and Twenty posted above, Pro includes support for dual processors so it has the potential to be much faster then the Home version. While the Pro may ship with extra features, you have to enable those features that you want. Basically Home and Pro if configured identically they are identical and therefor no difference should be noticeable.

NFS Porsche Unleashed - XP Probs?

Turns out it isn't an XP problem. Some nvidia cards with certain drivers don't work well with NFS:PU and I guess mine is one of them. Turning off lense flare in the game has solved the problem.

NFS Porsche Unleashed - XP Probs?

I've done a clean install of WinXP Pro on my system and have installed NFS Porsche Unleashed as well. The game ran perfectly under Win98SE and seems to be running just fine under XP as well save for one problem. The track called "Alps" always crashes after a minute or so of racing. The game locks with the sound looping for about 10 seconds and then it drops to the desktop. No error messages are given either by NFS:PU or WinXP. Although I haven't tried all of the tracks, the others I have raced on have no problems to my knowledge. Only Alps crashes after a minute of play. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Maybe if you have NFS:PU give the Alps track a try and see if it works for you. My system: Thunderbird 850 ASUS A7V 512 MB RAM ASUS Geforce3 (22.50 Detonator XP drivers) SB Live! (XP drivers)

    ATI TV Wonder

Thanks Jr8110! Your trick is working for my ATI TV Tuner. This card always seems to have problems with new OS's and hardware. I really do wonder how well ATI tests them. I hope they post new drivers ASAP. Btw, anyone else who has gotten the drivers working have you noticed the following? First, the video quality is not as good as under Win98. The video actually seems to stutter at times. As well, when you run the Channel Scan feature all the channels have a strong yellow tint.
