just wondering if anyone has succeeded in recording a DVD-Audio disc onto their hard drive and how. I just bought a classical DVD-Audio disc (by mistake, i admit) and I'd like to make an Audio CD out of it (not everyone has a DVD player in their car, right?)...but i don't know how. I tried converting it through FlaskMPEG 0.6 and X-MPEG 4.2, but no success (both apps froze - i know that they work, i just tried opening a DVD movie and it was ok). Ripping it with Clad XP 1.2 was also unsuccessful. Any ideas??? All input appreciated

Could be the stupidest thread ever....but I cannot get it....what is the functionality of SMART (for HDDs) in the BIOS, apart from the obvious, monitoring and stuff? Does if affect the performance (probably not)? Any other issues that go with it? thank you in advance. tsonta101

i have only seen this message (out of range) when my monitor is on and i have not connected the cable onto the graphics card....check it and see that it is firmly connected...you might also want to secure it with the thumscrews that most cables (monitor to card) have... regards, tsonta101

PCI Radeon + DELL Intel Mobo + WinXP = Hangs at bootup?
tsonta101 replied to Jeeves's topic in Hardware
might be stupid, but enable the crappy on-board video card while still having the radeon in the box. maybe windows still miss the old video card ....ok, bad joke, but it could be (long shot) that adding a second video card (prior to disabling the first one) still requires the first video card....pray to god and if xp boots up and finds the radeon, go back to bios, disable the on-board one and pray again..... btw what motherboard is that??? not having an agp slot sounds really old.......plus it could be an incompatibility issue (mobo vs radeon)... i hope i have not confused you, post the results if you have luck tsonta101 -
hi and welcome aboard! now, a few ideas... 1) check that your hdd does not actually have bad clusters (since setup has reported it, it might be true) 2) try to set up WinXP (or W2K) with your system NOT overclocked. I have read that some people had difficulty doing so when overclocking 8) ... 3) off the top of my head, can you throw in another hdd and try to install on that? it might be its electronics are dying and not the bad clusters. try these and tell us if everything worked, all the best, tsonta101

in my humble opinion, ASUStek and TEAC cd-rom drives are among the fastest/most reliable/etc ones. You might also want to consider cd-roms from Creative (some come with remote control capabilities)....that's all, but then again i went to the other side (DVD drive) 3 years ago. Pioneer ones can be bought online for around £60/€97 here on the continent.

hi all, about the post of the 27.10 detonator...i am not able to d/load the file.. i am trying from this link http://www.3dchipset.com/drivers/beta/nvidia/2710/win-xp-2k.shtml (hit the download button at the middle of the page) but the server is ALWAYS busy.......has anyone succeeded in getting the file........and if so post some feedback here (performance, infinite loop etc) thanx, tsonta101

finally was able to dl them....slightly worse performance, fastest results so far on my system were using the 23.11s (3006 points in 3Dmark2001 instead of the 2960 points with the 27.10). i do not have 2 monitors so i cannot judge the virtual desktop manager.... bottleneck, my guess would be that the cpu needs to do more calculations when dragging an opaque window, indstead of when you are dragging a transparent one.

my bit for the thread....

my chip is an athlon 1.3 (200FSB) and it runs at 53 idle (case closed) with no case fans (can't stand the noise)....ok, it's not the coolest athlon around...but I would be slightly worried about your 67 degrees. Add some extra cooling to the case and see if the temp drops. Also, what cooler do you use? You could buy something noisier to keep your chip cooler. Granted you have a 1900+ chip, but from what I have seen so far, 'normal' idle temps are around the 38-45 degrees range... The explanation about the FSB is that it is clocked at 100MHz or 133MHz, but using a 'special' technology, data is transferred at both the rise and the fall of the signal, effectively giving a 200MHz or 266MHz FSB. (the same applies for the P4 with its 400MHz FSB). I have no idea about how fast your 2100DDR ram should work..sorry pal.

I am thinking of taking advantage of the increased speed of a software raid array, with the help of converting to dynamic disks (through Computer Management/Disk Management in Administration Tools). My 2 hdds run at udma4 under winXP pro, the first one is a Maxtor 30Gb and the second one is a Quantum AS 40Gb. I already know that I will loose my existing data, but will I be able to create virtual drives (eg. c: win, d: mp3, e: games and so on)?. I would really like any help or thought on this, or if someone has already attempted this, some feedback would be more than appreciated.

http://www.ntcompatible.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18289 personally I haven't managed to play Driver at all in WinXP pro...but it was ok in Win2000 pro....just tough luck, i guess

not to worry, thanks for the info....i'll think about it again!

sorry, I forgot to mention that the Windows Update Driver for the Creative SB (the one that crippled my rear speakers) is version 5.1.2601.0 . Hats off to creative and their continuing support to all creative soundcard owners
-
sorry to be so late to respond, I was out all day. To be honest, this has been the only way (the 60Mb file) for me to get 4.1 sound. Windows update has another driver update for the SB, I let it install it and guess what, only stereo sound...oh crap ..that was over 2 weeks ago. I had to reinstall the 60Mb Liveware setup to get my rear speakers back! Did you succeed in having 4.1 sound?
-
had exactly the same problem.....the solution i found is, to install the drivers for the 5.1 SB Live series from creative's site (driver version in the device manager 3512.0.0.0)....and all of a sudden i had 4.1 sound alright! ...keep in mind that u still need to have quadrophonic speakers in the control panel/Sound & Audio Devices...try that and post the result...

Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed plays fine, straight from the CD, no compatibility fiddling or anything...at least on my machine

i have the latest driver for the Natural Keyboard Pro installed(ver 2.11.15.0), its the same for most MS keyboards. Check to see if it is 4.86 MB (5.099.560 bytes). I donwloaded it once and it was not corrupt. Good luck!

having a GeForce 2 MX (32MB) card myself, i am still saving money to get a Geforce 3 Ti200 ...seems to pack a lot of power for reasonable money right now...to be honest i loved my Voodoo 3 a year ago, but nVidia seems to lead the graphics market (probably for years to come). Also drivers are released FREQUENTLY, a major indication that they support their products

When the webpage you want has finished donwloading, you can always select File/Save As and choose Web Archive, Single File in the Save As Type field...it will create one file only, with all media/pics etc

bkehoe, your WinTV Theater worked straight away after an XP install and getting the drivers from the hauppauge site? I tried the latest driver (something like wdm_19300) and still no luck. Did you do anything else? And could you post your system specs please? thank you
-
I have a WinTV Theater and I haven't had much fun with it under XPpro. I'll explain myself: using the drivers that came with it (CD version 3.2) I had picture but no sound (and I have fiddled with all sound options and tweaks, to no success). That applies to all drivers drivers up to version 3.17 (latest, just checked However, there are sometimes that the diagnostics program will report that my graphics board does not support DDraw mode (???) and it will reboot my machine every time i will fire up the WinTV 2000 app. Windwos update was not helpful at all...drivers would install, having the same effect as above. Needless to say, the rest of my machine works fine, and I do not have any other problems with my SB live.... it think it's all down to my bad luck (i know the board it not faulty, it worked in ME and Win2000)...it could be the fact that it is the Theater model...other people with the 'plain' WinTV boards have had success....

Hercules Prophet II MX400 32 meg AGP, Best Drivers for XP?
tsonta101 replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
Try anything from the 21.xx Detonator series...people report the 21.83 and 21.85 to be the best performing drivers -
I am sorry to disappoint you, but this is the case ...XP will say sorry, you cant play. It's the same as when Win2000 came out. From my experience, there is no discrimination...for example, Driver and NBA 2001 will no play on my machine, but Motorhead (cool game, 4 years old!) and Grapd Prix Legends (3 years old) will play...some may curse mother Microsoft!!!

Strange thing ...my computer keeps changing the speaker settings in Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices/Advanced from Quadrophonic Speakers (see my specs below) to Stereo Desktop Speakers. This happens usually with Winamp 2.77...around 5/10 times i don't hear my rear speakers, so I know that the Speaker Settings have somehow changed. It also happens every time I start Formula 1 2000. Even if I have just changed the setting back to Quadrophonic Speakers, the in-game audio only comes from the front speakers ....needless to say drivers are updates, the overall working state of my machine is ok. Any ideas??? Anything will be considered, as long as it does not involve formatting and re-installing Regards, tsonta101
