    SCSI CD burner issue

I apologize if this has been talked about before; my quick perusal of the forum revealed no previous discussion on this topic. I am having an interesting problem with a Yamaha 8424SZ drive. W2K will recognize it on startup, but 30 seconds after I get the desktop, I am told in a little dialog box that I removed the device unsafely. If I use Device Manager to scan for installed hardware, it comes back, and remains there until I shut down. Any thoughts? Some more system info...Adaptec AHA-2930CU SCSI, Abit KG-7, Athlon T-bird 1.4 GHz, 1.0 GB RAM. I have installed the SCSI reset fix and the VIA chipset fix from SP2, but no other pieces. Nick A.M.D.G.

    SCSI CD burner issue

Yet another dead end: termination is set correctly and I have the most recent firmware release. Another question slightly off topic: does W2K have a fetish for making every device in the PC share the same IRQ? My SCSI card, video adapter, sound card, and network card are all on IRQ 11 together. This should be no problem, but I do find it a bit odd. Palos and BladeRunner, thanks for your help, even if it hasn't yet solved the problem.

    SCSI CD burner issue

Unfortunately, Windows still thinks I removed it. Further investigation reveals one more strange thing: Windows thinks I have two CD burners attached to the machine: my actual burner, the 8424SZ, and an 8824SZ that actually does not exist. The dialog at startup lists the 8824SZ as the device that has been removed, but of course I still can't get at the 8424SZ. I'm tempted to uninstall both of them and then let it redetect the real burner. Could this help or is something else wrong? Nick A.M.D.G.
