Does anyone see the irony of having to import "foreign" disks, when they're clearly using "NTFS" the native file system of the NT Platform? -Christian

I would like to point out the blatently obvious: 1: Different code requires different patches 2: Most of the security holes didn't exist in NT4 in the first place, it's different code 3: If for some strange reason you were able to install the wrong patch it would surely screw up whatever you were supposed to be fixing. You might give a 21st century operating system a try and see how you like it . Cheers, Christian

You can also try up[censored] your drivers to a version with superior DX9 support. It's not always DirectX's fault when screwy behavior occurs. www.NVidia.com Cheers, Christian

Did anyone download NullSoft Waste before they pulled it?

Hi Gang, It would seem AOL used their big corporate hand of stupidity squish another one of their excellent products: http://rss.com.com/2100-1032_3-1011585.html?type=pt&part=rss&tag=feed&subj=news Did anyone download it before it was pulled? Can they post a link to download it or e-mail it to me Christian_BlackburnREMOVE@THISHotmail.com? Thanks, Christian Blackburn -
Hi I'm not sure why you're looking to ignore the best graphics languages out there, but you might also take a look at GTK and Scitech MGL http://www.scitechsoft.com/products/embedded/mgl_home.html. Cheers, Christian

Thank you very much Adam and Steve for all the help, If anyone else would like a copy you can find one right here: http://gominosensei.org/waste/download.html Cheers, Christian -
Hi geireng1 and Alec, Alec was absolutely correct you can find the file you're looking for at: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/contig.shtml. Cheers, Christian

Hi Duhmez, I'm almost certain that this is some other product here's a valid URL for the free application: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net Cheers, Christian

Also I don't really mind adware if it's just. I can tolerate ads in the program I'm using if they're small enough. If the adware pops up even when I'm not using the application I simply won't have any part of it. That'd be like watching the simpsons and then from then on having to watch an add every 20 minutes for the rest of the evening even though you're now watching a rented video. Cheers, Christian

Also what's up with Opera and the adware? Is it easy to remove? Can someone point me at an article on how to do so? Or can Ad-Aware take care of it automatically? Thanks, Christian

Hi Alec and Gang, Thanks for letting me know more about Phoenix I've often wondered what the heck it was all about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has a more Opera-like tab behavior? Currently I find the tabbed behavior in Mozilla only partially apealing. Isn't Phoenix less stable than Mozilla? I thought it was slower too, but based on your description it sounds faster than Mozilla? Is that so? Also what features have you noticed are missing from Phoenix that were in Mozilla? What was the last version of Mozilla you used? Also can an IE 6 user comment on some of the differences between Mozilla and IE 6? Thanks, Christian

Hi Gang, Why not just change the title and leave it alone. It's a reasonable poll so why not just enable it and let the survey take place? -Christian

What type of connection are you using Parallel or USB? Make sure that the controller for either port doesn't have an IRQ conflict or isn't disabled for some other reason like no open IRQs. If it's USB make sure you still have the separate power supply plugged in even in USB mode. -Christian

Hi CyberGuru, If the directory can not be read it sounds like you either have a file system corruption issue. Have you tried running ScanDisk thorough? Also deleting from the recovery console works great I've used that before. You just boot off your Win2K (probably WinXP too) CD and you're set. Good Luck, Christian

Unallocated space after using Fdisk in 2k w/ FAT32
Christianb replied to videobruce's topic in Hardware
Win2K will leave about 8MB at the end if you have one or more NTFS partitions. The other problem is Win2K has a formatting limitation on FAt32 I don't think it'll format a partition any larger than 80GB. You should just download Ranish partition Manager. Good Luck, Christian Blackburn -
I'm pretty sure this requires IE 6, because that registry value isn't present by default on my IE 5.5 Win2K Sp3 computer. Nor does it have any effect. -Christian

I just looked here at the FTP protocol's website and they didn't have one multiplatform FTP server listed. Maybe your best bet is to just use the best windows one and the best unix one and call it good. However you should still check out those two top ranked Win32 FTP freeware apps and see if one of those isn't multi-platform. Cheers, Christian

I have to recommend that you don't take shassouneh's advice. Java is extremely CPU intensive. This is bad for home users and profesional hosts alike. A high traffic hosting site won't be able to support as many users, due to the CPU overhead. Whereas a low traffic home user will be annoyed when their FTP site is acessed and everything slows down in the process. Not only that if you're running a Java app that means that the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) has to be running all the time which will also slow down your system regardless of whether or not someone is actively acessing your site. War FTP is good for windows and GNU, but I just looked and it's not multiplatform. Why don't you compare these two lists and take the highest rated multi-platform solution: http://www.tucows.com/ftpserver95_rating.html http://adnc.linux.tucows.com/ftp_default.html (note I couldn't find the server category in their Unix listing so be careful this may just be FTP clients and not servers). I would just look at the two top rated freeware solutions for Win32 and see if one of those isn't multi-platform. Good Luck and please let us all know what you decide to use -Christian

Hi Ali, That's funny Fox Pro is decidedly unpopular . If you have unix you could learn kylix open edition that'd be pascal based? I'm also sure you could pick up an old copy of Delphi for Peanuts. Well good luck in life whether or not you decide to give programming another try, Christian -
Hi Duhmez, I think you can mirror partitions in Win2K pro. Windows XP may be a different story, but I don't own that. I know I've seen the option I've just never used it. -Christian

Hi Guys, I don't know if that'll work or not. Is that a documented feature? If it doesn't work then please let me know and I'd be happy to post a boot.ini compatible .dat for Dos 6.22, because I have it . Cheers, Christian

Quote: NT 3.51 was the MOST stable version of any NT based Operating System to date if you ask me. To be honest Alec out of all the versions of Windows I think NT 3.51 and sub 3.0 are the only versions I've never used. I've used Windows 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, Win95, 95A, B, C, 98, 98SE, NT 4, WinME, Win2K, and WinXP. In fact I had a 386 up until early 1996 and still used Win 3.11. Which means I have no fear of a command prompt . I will have to take your word it on the stability bit, because I've never used it. It also doesn't surprise me that Progman.exe and WinFile.exe are extremely stable components they've been around for years and are tried and true. They also don't do much, which means there's not much that can break or slow the system down. I still think WinFile with two horizontally stretching window panes is a tough file manager to beat. I use PowerDesk when I miss the dual pane beauty, but WinFile sure was fast. Unfortunately that crashes all the time so I'm not a big fan. I imagine you have it or have used it in the past since you've got Mijenix SystemSuite. I suppose your's is Ontrack's though since it's 4.X. Although now the suite belongs to V-COM . My dad just recently bought Acronis's PowerTools. Have you ever used it? It's not particularly good at anything it does, but it basically does every major feature that system utilities offer. #1. Backup #2. Partition Resizer #3. Boot Manager #4. Virus Scanner #5. Virtual CD/DVD Drive Emulator #6. Data Wiper #7. Data Recovery #8. Performance Optmizer I've only used the Partition Resizer, Boot Manager, and Backup Utilities. The backup utility is pretty cool, it works inside of windows, which is a double-edged sword I suppose. The Parition Resizer sucks, because it only supports Fat16/32 conversions. It will however let you size your clusters at whatever size will give you the most disk space. Since I'm low on disk space I comprimised a little performance for another 500MB disk space on my 8.5GB OS/Application Partition. Quote: he's not using the Win3x shell & programs, that would not be prudent OR possible I don't think Actually he is using the Win3X shell, that's exactly what Progman.exe is. Sure it's been retrofitted a little to work with Win32, but it's still essentially the same program. I don't think he's trying to run Win16 apps, but he may be doing that too, since his behavior is characteristic of someone who misses Win16's simplicity. Which every now and again I do too . Oh also How's the next version of APK Tools coming along? Did you get everything working with InnoSetup? Adios Amigo, Christian

Hi ViloentGreen, Well it sounds to me like I understood exactly what a farker was . By the way are you an environmental activist of some sort? I'm trying to make out what your name means. Cheers, Christian

Hi Video Bruce, I'm not sure which settings are involved. One reason most installations fail is that they try to write to the global portion of the registry HKLM. If the installation just uses HKCU things typically work better. However to my knowledge the reason that office 2000 can be installed by a user is that the Windows Installer gets around this. So no you can't make it work without modifying security settings, but if the program uses the windows installer then yes it should work anyways. Cheers, Christian
