    Problem with hotmail

Hi El Vago, That's funny I even asked my dad to proof read my Spanish, but I forgot to get around to posting his edits . My dad was a spy so his Spanish is top notch for a gringo. I will bear in mind that you want me to communicate with you in English. It's funny, but when I'm in Mexico I usually make the same request, but in the other direction . Frankly I don't think your English is that bad. It may need some work, but I was definetly able to understand your issue . Here's a little bit of grammatical advice: Quote: this is happenning in one of my job's workstation This is happening on one of the workstations at work. Also be sure to capitalize the first letter of each sentence just like Spanish. Quote: i've found this very interesting and decided to put it here. The issue is that when I try to logon to hotmail, IE gives the error "the page cannot be found, bla, bla..." In English the isn't used as frequently as it is in Spanish, as you may already know. The reason you don't say the IE is because there's really one IE. Right? Okay sure there's 4.0, 5.0, etc.., but other companies don't make an IE. For example there are millions of cats in the world. So you would say "The cat ran to school.", rather than "Cat ran to school.", but if there was only one cat in the world then cat ran to school would then of course be fine. Quote: and passed 1second it closes; completely crashes and after 1 second it closes and completely crashes. Quote: i think this happens whenever the sign-in is related with .net passport (as msn chat, groups, hotmail), i've deleted all cookies, reset web settings, tried diferent security levels, deleted temporary internet files, and nothig seems to work. I hope someone will help me (I don't want to do a fresh installation of Windows). Well I hope that helped. Feel free to write me with any questions related to the edits I made. Adios Amigo, Christian
  2. Hi I'm trying to find out what kind of a system my friend can upgrade to. I'm sure he can upgrade his Cyrix PR275 to a PR433, however I think AMD might make a faster solution since Cyrix sucks and went out of business. Yes I do know that VIA purchased their assets. Also I should mention that his computer is a Compaq Preario 2266, don't laugh. I know that Compaqs aren't exactly known for being the most upgradeable by my friend is kinda broke so we gotta do the best we can. Thanks for any and all help regarding this matter, Christian Blackburn

Fastest AMD or VIA Socket 7 CPU that's only 100MHZ FSB?

Also I know I downloaded and tried your 3DFX tuner a long time ago. I think I opted to manage my settings in the autoexec.bat manually though. Was your application shareware or freeware? Your 1-2 percent metric doesn't really suprise me. The biggest reason for that in my opinion is simply that it's just to easy to pirate software and or find freeware alternatives. So Long, Christian

Fastest AMD or VIA Socket 7 CPU that's only 100MHZ FSB?

Hi Alec, Yes programming is the bomb. It's a hoot being able to have control over aspect of system and or application behavior. You're absolutely right I suppose the biggest test of a "good" program from a programmer's standpoint is would they themselves use it and more so would they choose to use their application over the competition? So long Amigo, Christian

Partition recovery program - thread i made months ago, where

Hi Tomay, I'm glad to Ontrack has integrated that technology into some other data recovery package. However the idiots have still priced themselves out of the home user market. What a bunch of jackasses. They can't even learn from previous failure. This reminds me of Steve Jobs and his pricing models: -Too High -Outrageous -Are you kidding? Oh well on the bright side, they are primarily screwing themselves. -Christian
  6. Hi madaspen, That does look like a good app, but I just can't see paying for something so simple . The only reason I need it is because a friend of mine wants a copy of a book on tape I have as one huge low KHZ MP3 file. The book on tape itself probably only costs 25 dollars . Basically I need to cut it into a few CDs with songs on it so she can listen to it in her car with reasonable ease. Perhaps someone knows of a freeware alternative. Thanks, Christian

Partition recovery program - thread i made months ago, where

Lost and found was okay, but not very easy to use. Also it was overpriced 70 dollars, no wonder they had to discontiue it. The application was free for about 2 weeks and now they don't offer it anymore, I wonder why? It seems to me if you're going give away an app why not really do it. I guess they just wanted to measure the ammount of traffic such an activity would generate. -Christian
  8. Hi JimF43, I tried that program and it seems like a bit of a hassle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to manually select each portion you'd like to break into a "song". I just want to say give me 10 equal parts or create a new song every 10 minutes and have it make the files. Does anyone know of a program that'll do that? By the way from what I can tell of the app you posted Audacity is infinitely better. http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ -Christian

    DLL Tracker?

Hi Alec, Wow Alec PESX doesn't sound pesky at all . That sounds excellent. They used to have that functionality built into Windows 98. I still can't figure out why the dropped it. It was cool, I can't remember the extension though (I can find out if you really want to know), but it would record how many times a program was executed and which system files it called. -Christian
  10. Quote: Christianb, I am curious on your noting data loss on these disks due to larger buffers... how so? During crashes & powerloss I could see this, but is there other reasons you have heard of?? apk Hi Alec, I believe the problem was endemic to EIDE drives with more than 2MB cache and it wasn't related to power outages. It was a problem with Microsoft's support for these drives in the OS. Somehow they weren't handling the cache size correctly on shutdown and any unwritten data (presumably beyond the 2MB mark) wasn't getting written to the disk. -Christian

    Problem with hotmail

  12. Hi Wavex, I strongly recommend getting an Intel processor for this type of work. Intel has always had a far superior floating point unit and has their own instructions called SSE that are much faster than AMD's. Intel also has better quality assurance on their CPUs and people get far fewer defective Intel CPUs than AMDS. Also Intel currently has an enormous share of the market, because of their speed/quality. One thing I will say for AMDs is their upgradability is much better, Intel wants you to buy a new motherboard every other weekend. In my High School class were I learned AutoCad we also used 3D Studio R4 have you ever used that or a newer versions thereof? Happy Shopping, Christian

Fastest AMD or VIA Socket 7 CPU that's only 100MHZ FSB?

Hi Guys, I want to thank everyone for replying. I really appreciate it even if the news sucks for my friend. You see he bought Dragon Natural Speaking 8 and I guess it requires a 400MHZ CPU and he has a 225MHZ Cyrix. I'm sure he would gladly accept and or purchase your CPU if it were 75MHZ FSB, but I think your 550 is 100MHZ bus which won't work, but thanks for the offer. Alec that was really nice of you to part with your system at a value price. I assume you sold the Voodoo card? That's probably a great glide card. Admitedly I haven't tried any of the emulators yet. I still have one of my Voodoo 2's in my closet just in case (I gave the other [used to have SLI] to my nephews and nieces). Did you play any good glide games back in the day? I used to buy a new video card about once a year and would always buy a good one that game with an excellent game bundle. People were always so stupid and would pay up for faster RAM in their cards that would yield a 2-5 percent increase in performance and cost 20-40% extra . I on the other hand would buy based on what a particular video card came bundled with. I mean if you're going to buy a reference design from 3DFX or NVidia it really doesn't make that big of a difference who manufactured it. Although, I'm sure some companies did a better job than others. I think I bought a Hercules Voodoo Rush (the first one that really sucked , Monster 3d (I complained and traded my Rush 3DFX chip in for the card), 2 Creative Labs Voodoo2's, a Matrox Millenium G200 for video only (I kept the SLI setup for games), and currently I have a GeForce 2 MX, and don't really play games anymore. I find programming to be more intriguing. Although maybe twice a month I play a game for about 30 minutes, but that's it. I'm glad I've conquered that addiction . Adios Amigos and Thanks Again, Christian

    Half Life & win 2k

Quote: I would email Valve and ask....although I wouldn't expect much of a response. You could either look up the permissions difference between Power User and oridnary user at the Registry/file permission level or also email Microsoft and ask. I think the second suggestion has the most promise, but I would definetly try contacting Valve too. Microsoft probably won't be of much help and besides you only get two free support requests per license. I'd save them for something more important than this (although half-life is majorly popular and in your line of business it may very well be important enough). Good Luck Either way, Christian Blackburn

    Half Life & win 2k

Hi DosFreak, Hey I made the FreeDos Team today . Yipee! I'm an official Dos geek now . Okay perhaps I was one earlier, but now I'm a legend (in my own mind ). All the same I like the project and it'll look good on my resume. Or make me look like an obessesed antiquated computer nerd, either way I don't think it'll hurt to be on my resume . -Christian

Front Page 02 has the Wrong Password and I want to change it

Hi DS3Circuit, Thanks for your suggestion, but other FP2002 users can log in without issues and I'm getting a wrong password error so I'm sure it's related to that. The problem is I know the password is wrong (it got corrupted somehow, because it used to work flawlessly), but FP gives no option to forget the saved password . -Christian

    DLL Tracker?

Hi Alec, Actually the reason I posted FileMon was because I read his post's message forgetting what the title of his post was was . Hey CuViper, That application looks great do you happen know how it stacks up to Depends a tool included with Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition? Depenecy walker looks almost identical to Microsoft's retail solution. However, there's a pretty good chance that it was improved upon and so I was curious to find out if you knew of any such features that Dep Walker has that Depends (sounds like that diaper for adults doesn't it ) doesn't. Thanks, Christian Blackburn

Hi Alec and TheSam, At the same website you can find FileMon which sounds more like what you're looking for. Happy Monitoring, Christian Blackburn
  19. As far as the HD goes I wouldn't bother paying up for SCSI. What in the hell would you need that for? If 512MB isn't sufficient and AutoCad will wind up using a swapfile then just get a more RAM like 2GB or more. I know the most an X86 CPU can handle is 4GB, but you'd also have to find a motherboard that will support that which to my knowledge would probably mean you'd have to get a Xeon processor. However, I wouldn't be at all suprised if 2GB wasn't more than sufficent. By the way you don't have an older verison of AutoCad you'd like to sell do you? Good Luck Man, Christian
  20. I haven't used AutoCad since R13 for windows and lot may very well changed. First off based on your video card specs I assume that Autocad supports OpenGL rendering just like 3D Studio Max. When I was using autocad in school it seemed like most of what we did was more 2D and therefore fast/complete rendering wasn't a big issue. This was primarily because we were doing architecture and not engineering type stuff. So I guess I just wanted to question whether or not you really need to fork over that much bread for a top notch OpenGL card. Hasn't Permedia made a card that supports the complete OpenGL spec for a number of years now? That may be cheaper. Also is there some reason a basic Geforce 2 MX type card wouldn't work? The other thing is no matter what I'm sure having a lot of RAM 1-2GB and a fast processor ~2GHZ will definetly be advisable. Happy Cad'ing, Christian Blackburn

Front Page 02 has the Wrong Password and I want to change it

Hi I'm using Windows 2000, but the problem is the password dialog appears, but it's checked to save the password. So the dialog comes up and clicks ok all by itself, before I can intervien. I've tried pressing esc, when it appears, or even holding down backspace and still it just displays a dialog saying it failed to log in, but the idiots don't clear the save password option and let you rectify the situation . I'll probably have to contact technical support on this one. Which sucks, because MS only gives you two freebies . Correct me if I'm wrong though your dialog also has a save password option? Thanks for trying to help though, Christian Blackburn

Problems schedualing Kazza with Task Schedualer

Hi Brian and Mr Guv, Have either of you tried both KaZaA Lite and Diet Kaza? I am curious which you though was better and when you did you evaluation? Thanks, Christian Blackburn
  23. Hi BladeRunner, I too have no immediate plans to adopt SATA. I mean for starters just look at what you get if you put an 'n' on the end of it . My main reason being, I used to work at MS and have read hundreds of bugs related to data loss for a variety of reasons. One of the major causes is using new drive interfaces like USB in 1995 or Firewire, when it first came out. Another cause of data loss I recall was an excessive cache size like those in the WD 8MB drives. I take this policy with software too where I usually lag a version behind. I wait until things are supported and fixed and then I join the parade. I too won't be trying SATA until SATA 2 and when an OS ships with support for it out of the box. Adios Amigos, Christian

Yet Another Good Reason to Get a Digital Camera

Hi Ali, I really wouldn't waste your time worrying about flying. Some day you'll be 80 and too tired to go anywhere and you'll regret all the sights you never saw. Sure your jet could get blown out of the air. However the building your in could too, you could also be involved in a random drive-by shooting, or shot in your bed while you're sleeping. Since all of these are geniun possibilities why not throw paranoia to the wind and accept the fact that you may die at any moment. Whether or not you do die before your time shouldn't you be spending your life taking risks and enjoying it's countless benefits? Good Luck, Christian
