My own special way of saying thank you for all the junk mail

Hi Sapiens, You're probably right, I kept reading about all the new security measures they were going to do, and yet they still hadn't implimented that one. I think there should be a one e-mail per credit ID. That'd make it considerably more difficult to create alias'es. Although they'd probably just wind up creating a credit card whose sole purpose was simplicity to join and had no credit checks. These e-mailers can afford to do what they do, because the 6 percent of the population that are idiots (I get this from telemarketing statistics I've heard of) keep buying their garbage. I need a program that will replace all instances of a file

Hi LinuxBoy, I typically try to make programs that are portable. Without a lot of additional bloat and runtimes. That is why I program in Visual Basic. That was a joke by the way . No seriously I do like to write real standalone programs on my own. I'm sure it's a great scripting language, but I need to know another one of those like I need a hole in my head . I'll just learn to do it via the Windows API and VB. Thanks for sending me the link though, I'll forward it on to some networking friends of mine who would most likely get better use out of it. Thanks, Christian -

Hi AlecStaar, Ya I thought about triaging the folders, but I have never done that and while I can conceptualize how I didn't feel like putting that much time into it. I do plan on writing such an application, but not yet. Believe it or not even though I've written computer AI and what not, I still really haven't worked with a ListBox that much so I thought I'd play with that. Basically you select what file you want to distribute and which folders you want to put it in. If I feel like it I'll expand from there allow users to back up the older file, have some compilation commands, and allow users to copy single files and or a selection of files and folders, but really I already have a lot more interesting products I'm working on so it'll have to take a back burner. Also I would like to have something that would FTP sets of files and folders via a decent script. I know CuteFTP can, but I don't think they do that great of a job. How'd InnoSetup work out for you? Did you try it yet? Don't feel bad if you haven't some really nice guy from England went to all the trouble to mail me a copy of Delphi 7 and I still haven't used that either . I've just been too busy and I'm really starting to get good at VB so it's hard for me to want to use anything else right now. Oh if you want to play my Checkers game (it's the lame ass bloated windows installer though) go to Checkers.net. Cheers Amigo, Christian -

Hi Brian Frank, I gotta be really honest with you block sender isn't going to help that much, because most professional smammers use a new e-mail address each time they send something out. All the same it's better than nothing. Creating in box rules is a much better way to go. For example you might create an in box rule that send "gigantic schlong" to the trash . I should probably add one for viagara that seems to be very common. Although I could miss out on an e-mail from a girlfriend if I set up a rule for "impressive" and "penis" . Just kidding. Don't I wish. Adios Amigo, Christian -

Hi Adam, I shouldn't have, but I've already gone ahead and started writing an application to meet my needs . However since I'm doing a half-ass job I'm still interested in more complete solutions. Also freeware would be preferable. Thanks, Christian Blackburn -

Hi Mr. Guvernment, That sounds like a worthy revenge, but really if my wife (assuming I had one ) wanted me to do that. I'd probably feel inadequate for a little bit and if she insisted I'd recommend she stop asking or find a different mate. -Christian -
Absolutely I couldn't have put that better myself. I often split purchases too. For example my dad and I bought WinZip together, and we always split the cost on ACDSee when a new version comes out. From the company's perspective and mine as well it should be so much better than nothing . This is especially important on Overpriced software, which Windows may or may not, be seeing how it's quite possibly the best piece of software in the world. I know I hate windows too, but come on what really can do all that it does and still be user-friendly. You know it ain't linux, that's not user-friendly. Cheers, Christian

Actually I've been listed with Microsoft as an OEM distributor since I was about 16 and no lawyers have come knocking on my door. Really they don't know the difference. So why not? If it gets you the same things at a lower price then who cares? -Christian

Hi Clutch, Thanks for letting me know your opinion of the movie. I will watch it nonetheless, if for no other reason than I like comedies and that chick off the charts hot . They need to put a better picture of her in the publicity photos. The ones they have are only okay and don't do her justice. I will try to get a copy of the movie on KaZaA based on the IMDB rating it doesn't sound like it's worth the rental fee or the trip . Adios Amigo, Christian -

Sorry Tomay, I read your message and not the title. I'm sure that didn't make much sense . So I've removed the original text . -Christian -
Hi Jim F, I know that I'm not alone in this issue. Perhaps only a portion of their batches were defective. Otherwise it's a great card. I would probably still have it if it weren't for that . I just got tired of turning on my PC once a month and having it not display anything. I still can't figure out why they didn't just replace my card. Oh well I've moved on and am a Nvidia customer now . Cheers, Christian

Hi Sam, Did you just move to your current location? Is this the first time you've tried to run a computer off the circuit? Computers are highly sensitive electronics your lights might work fine, but the juice may not be pure enough for your computer hardware. Have you tried running any other PCs at your location? I say this living in a house wired in the 20s, we have wires wrapped in fabric in some of the sockets! The only reason my computer doesn't reboot spontaneously every 30 minutes to 2 hours is because I bought a UPS. -Christian

The worst program to configure and or use for that matter has got to be Bochs what a hunk of junk. It has all the promise in the world, but if users can't figure out how to use it, what difference do all the features make? http://bochs.sourceforge.net/ -Christian

You almost never see undocumented settings in programs written by one person. They can take care of it, because they know exacty what they did and didn't do. That is what settings need to be included in Options menus. -Christian

Can someone upload a win95 registry file with the correct value? I have IE 5.5 and Win2K SP3 and it simply ain't working. My guess is it only works on Windows Me and XP the two OS's that support that option through their interfaces. However, I will admit that often MS includes an "unsupported" feature simply, because they're chicken shits and want to find out what reprocussions if any happen with a particular setting over time. Also I think it may just be bad program management. Perhaps the Taskbar developers need to have more communication with the control panel devs or something. Typical big company nonsense. -Christian

Hi AlectStaar, Yes they can be humorous, but usually I just delete them. I do remember seeing one around Christmas time that really made me giggle. It said this year get your man what he really wants for christmas and it was Viagra. Can you imagine the level of embarassment after getting a penis enhancer in your stocking right in front of your whole family? -Christian -
Aside from that I still think Matrox is an excellent company and one of the few out there that supports their products indefinetly, not unlike Creative Labs does with their sound cards. (I don't think they have the same track record with their other devices). Cheers, Christian

If you have a video card with a flashable bios, it may have lost it's memory. Is this an old computer or a new one? The problem I'm describing is more likely to occur on older video cards like a Matrox G200 for example. It sounds like you have a new system, but one never knows. If you do have a matrox video card call them up there is a fix, but it the card will fail every 1-6 months and you'll have to boot their special floppy to get the picture back. Personally I was really, reallly disapointed with Matrox about this. They should have done a product recall, instead they created a boot floppy, just think of all the people out there will or have already gone through this problem and wasted time and money fixing it, possibly replacing the computer altogether. Cheers, Christian

Quote: If anyone know a program to test the drive for future errors (weak sectors), please let me know. I would use calibrat but I doubt that ist supports fat32 Hi Tomay, I haven't heard and or seen your name on here for a while. It's good to have you back x). Just Kidding 8). Sometimes you gotta have fun with these emoticons. Many hard disk analyzers will support unknown file systems, by not doing a file system check and just dealing with the media directly on a bit per bit basis. So Calibrat may in fact work. However, my guess is that it's an older program and probably doesn't support today's enormous drives. You could try asking symantec, but I doubt that'd be of much help. Their usual answer is that's not supported and we'd love to sell you a new version of our products? However "that's not a supported configuration" in no way means it doesn't work, it just means Symantec isn't willing to risk their reputation on telling you it will, because they haven't tested it or know of one or two issues they're not willing to tell you about. Cheers and good luck, Christian

Hi BytezBoyz, I am not aware of one. There might be a freeware application that does that already. I don't think it'd be that complicated to write. Just a little basic mathematics. Although I don't know whether you'd have to write the mouse code manually or if there are API functions to resize the taskbar. Cheers, Christian

Hi I don't have Color PhotoPaint 8 installed, because I'm not terribly crazy about the program, but I'm wondering is it able to save .RLE images? I would rather use .RLEs in my visual basic applications than normal .BMPs because they have a smaller file footprint. Thanks to all who took the time read this even if they have now way to answer this, Christian
-
Hi Nebulus, Thanks for letting me know. I can only assume that if 10 doesn't 8 wouldn't either, but because of licensing issues and file format popularity .rle support could have gone the way of the dodo. The good news is the photo editor I actually use Ulead PhotoImpact will save a .rle I didn't notice it earlier, because I tend to scan lengthy file format listings, but it saves "BMP/RLE". I guess you can save the same file a .rle extension or a .bmp so my guess is PhotoPaint 8+ probably lets you save a run length encoded (RLE) BMP instead which would have worked too . So who is rich cook anways? Cheers Amigo and Thanks again for checking, Christian Blackburn
