Geoff, If you really can't get an old favorite working you can always try emulating it. Ranked From Best to Worst: 1. Connectix Virtual PC 2. VMWare 3. Bochs (freeware Open-Source, looks like a dead project ) Cheers, Christian

Hi Geoff, I'm sorry I almost forgot. You're most welcome. Did get your legacy apps running? Cheers, Christian

Hi Adam, How's it going? FreeDos 1.0 is coming along nicely in terms of components. Currently, I think the main problem is the installer and the lack of patching system ala Windows Update. We also finally got a freeware CD Rom driver that we can distribute that had been a big issue for a long time. Basically freedos hasn't released their own build of the OS in about 1.5 years, because of installer issues. So New Creations created a commercial distribution with an installer. This is both a good an a bad on one hand it means we're growing since a company has taken on the responsibility of distributing the operating system, on the other hand it sucks, because they want you to pay for the most recent version. So the only way a user can stay up to date for free is to download the older free version from New Creations and then download whatever files have been updated since then. I've considered writing a service pack system for the OS. However, I just don't use DOS that much myself anymore so I can hardly see the point. I think FreeDos is great, fun, and even sometimes useful, but I'm going to leave the major legwork to someone else. Cheers, Christian

Hi Geoff, Yes you're absolutely right you are doing something wrong and thankfully it's a simple mistake. How to make it work: 1. Click [start] ---> "Run" 3. Type "Regsvr32 C:\WINNT\AppPatch\slayerui.dll" Expected Result: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RegSvr32 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (i) DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\AppPatch\slayerui.dll suceeded. [ OK ]" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope that helps, Christian Blackburn

Which 52x Burner is better? MicroAdvantage or I/O Magic
Christianb replied to Christianb's topic in Hardware
Hi JimiJo, I tried Tucows and briefly SourceForge and I couldn't find a freeware solution. I find this rather hard to believe. That no-one has created one. Surely there must be one out there somewhere. Cheers, Christian -
Hi Gang, I'm trying to find out if there is a Free Exact Duplicate CD Cloning Program? Like the one that comes with Plextor burners or Nero? Also I have Easy CD-Creator 5.3.x (who can remember any more?) and Nero 5.x. Could I use EZ-CD for most stuff and DirectCD and nero for duping. I know they fight. Can someone post that link to the software that allows them to work together? Thanks in Advance, Christian Blackburn

Hey Sentme_mail, Just get the program, run the wizard, by putting a disk in and answer the wizard's questions. It's a no brainer. If you can't figure it out (not very likely) then we'll cross that bridge . Good Luck Buddy, Christian

Hi Jmmijo, Thanks for your reply. I take it Clone CD is free? What file library would contain it? Thanks in Advance, Christian Blackburn -
Hi Atreyu, I'm simply trying to help, since you're not going to get something for nothing, I was simply trying to help you pick "something" to give. Secondly, I wasn't implying that you w a r e z the individual a gift, but actually cough up some cash and give them a legitimate copy/gift . Cheers, Christian

Win2k with SP4 and increased memory use....
Christianb replied to RavishingRocket's topic in Software
Hi RavishingRocket, I will presume that you are not a programmer. It's true that often when code is fixed it winds up being smaller because developers will remove uncessary code or find a better way of "doing it". At the same time often fixing crashes requires error handling (increases code). Fixing security issues can also increase the bulk of their code base. In addition Sp4 includes new features which may and or may not increase the actively running (in memory) code base further like USB 2 support. That being said I think you are focussing a little to much on nothing. If it's not crashing more then who cares? If it's more secure and presumably has fewer problems and is also free aren't you complaining about almost nothing? Cheers, Christian -
Hi Gang, I'm wondering does anybody own this? If so what do you think? What isn't included from V-Com's major software suites? It looks like there's no partitioning, backup, or multi-boot functionality. I'm currently using Mijenix (Previous Owners) SystemSuite 3.0 and like the features, but the application is barely compatible with Win2K since it's about 3-4 years old now. Thanks for your feedback, Christian

Hi Gang, I'm trying to find a good Website menu creator. I realize there a ton of programs, but which are your favorites? Do you know of a product shoutout related to Menu Editors? I'm sure there are a ton of programs that do this and all must have their own advantages. Has anyone used Xara Menu Maker? http://www.xara.com/products/menumaker/ What about Fireworks and PhotoImpact? Thanks, Christian Blackburn

Hi Avalanche, Well I'm still a little disapointed with my Xara purchase, because I want to have a Search Text Box pop up over a search button so users can easily search the site, without having to load another page. However I guess it's not really that big of a deal I can add the button, they can click on it, and search from there almost as easily. Besides, people don't search that often. It's also not a professional website, so they'll have to put up with a few inadequacies . But yes you're right for the most part they're comparable. I did spend a lot of time choosing colors though to come up with that excellent color combination. I liked the color combo from their template, but I never want to see my exact menu on another website, so I choose my own colors and you know what I think I like them better, because they reflect my creativity rather than some entirely some other artists. However, I still haven't chosen a different font, and I'm not sure I will. I don't want to be that nit picky. I will get other things working first, since the Menu is just a series of graphics and javascript I can always change the font in my menu later and all the pages the employ my menu will updated automatically. Thanks again for your help. Cheers, Christian

Which 52x Burner is better? MicroAdvantage or I/O Magic

Hi Guys, Thaks for the help. The main thing I'm a little worried about loosing is the use of the exact CD Duplicator that comes with my Plextor 16x10x40 burner. Is there a freeware alternative? I have adaptec EZ-CD 5.31, but I don't think it makes exact duplicates (correct me if I'm wrong?). I would say that this is the main thing holding me back from buying a newer budget burner. Thanks, Christian -
Guys, memory speed types comparisons: Where can I see one?
Christianb replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Hardware
Hi Mr. Guverment, Thanks for correcting my link. I think there was a period at the end that was screwing things up. Cheers, Christian -
Hi SentMe_Email, You can find that info on the manufacturer's website for your SCSI COntroller. However, I think you'll find that Ghost's boot disk will load enough generic drivers that you shouldn't have to do anything. Cheers, Christian

Aopen makes some very nice hardware. I had an Aopen AX6B+ motherboard that had defective USB Ports and I didn't find out about it until after the warranty period, because USB hardware was so new and expensive that I didn't bother buying a USB component until the board was already about 13 or 14 months old . I still have to assume Aopen makes some decent stuff, but obviously I had a lot of bad luck with them. IBM on the other hand won't be forgiving any time soon. Search for "IBM" and "Deathstar" and you can read all about their 75GXP HD line that should have been recalled and how they're in the middle of a class action lawsuit regarding the matter. Well Cheers Amigo, Christian -

Hey Jimmijo, I thought PDX was an airport code and sure enough I was right . It was also my guess that it was portland although I don't know Where in the F they came up with "X". Perhaps you do? I'll be in Portland in August for the Internation Festival of Living Foods http://www.rawfoods.com/festival/oldindex.html. I a raw foodist and there's no place on earth where one can find such a high percentage of hotties out of otherwise perfectly normal people. You should come and check it out. Just come for one day if you don't like the women you can always leave . Cheers, Christian
