What do you consider the best computer game ever made?
RandyC replied to pr-man's topic in Slack Space
For me it has to be the following: Gunship 2000 (too many hours were spent playing this) Lemmings (ditto) Grand Prix 1 & 2 (ditto) Flight Sim 4 (ditto) Ultima 7 (so so so addictive) Quake 1 & 2 (played both of these games to death especially quake2 as I was online properly when it was released and was able to help start the online commmunity ... the first and last time I would do such a thing but It was fun ) Command & Conquer (Dune 2 was always a missed affair with me but C&C really did get everything right ... for me anyway) Elite (the sequels didn't feel right somehow ... the combat in elite 2 and first enc. was really bad) -
I downloaded it and played it up intil the third training mission. It seems that you have to play online for it and as there are only about a dozen servers at best available you can never progress. O well not bad for a free game. I think it's a work in progress type of free game. Carl

I know cable modems run off a neighbourhood node .. but you can't access any other persons pc on that node making this a very restictive sort of a LAN . My original point is still valid as many people will not find no need for file sharing across the cable network in this way and they certainly wouldn't want to arrange a shared cost with neighbours on their connection. You dont do it with any other services ... why should the net be any different.
-
I think that things should continue as they are for the moment with normal ISP charges to the net. I don't think neighbourhood lans will be very popular at all with the regular 'joe bloggs' sort of person.

M$ a few months back released a GUI patch ... have a look on windows update for it. I have never had any problems graphically except for one really annoying one in word where scrolling used to mirror the text . I think upgrading to new dets (28.32) solved it.

Nope. Turkey play Brazil and Germany play Korea. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/en/t/s/g.html

To quote a well coined saying ... "they think it's all over, it is now" (2 - 1 to Brazil). There's always euro 2004 which of course won't have Brazil playing in it Carl

Quote: Whats the deal with the new Matrox cards that will be coming out soon then There is definately something happening at camp Matrox although what exactly we are not sure. We have been through this a while ago and the end result was the G550, although a good card in it's own right was not what we were expecting. If only half of the rumours surrounding the next card from Matrox are true then we are about to see a new "King of the graphics cards". Matrox do not run on a six month product cycle like other companies and it has been a while since something truely new was released by them. All indications are that something will be announced within the next couple of weeks, until then any specifications you read are just rumour, but with so many of these rumours being alike we have to assume that at least some of them are true. If you pop along to http://www.matrox.com/mga/home.htm you will see Matrox have added a new Flash into which reads "Coming May 14th". Some of the rumours and expected specifications include DirectX 9 support (Microsoft have been using Matrox hardware to demonstrate DirectX 9 at shows), Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders 2.0, Displacement Mapping, 40bit colour, 512bit 2D Graphics core, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 256-bit bus-width, 400Mhz RamDac etc A lot of us are waiting to see what Matrox can produce, they still offer the best 2D and general image quality of any cards available on the market from any manufacturer. Matrox were the first to develop Dual Head displays and their technology is still the industry leader in this field. Matrox have relatively good driver support and lastly you know what they release will not be replaced after you've only owned it for 6 months. Personally if the specifications ring true I shall be there and I'll be getting one as soon as they are released. Yes I was impressed with the G450 I used on my summer placement last year. I'm not impressed with the dual monitor support of the GF2MX i'm using at the moment so getting a fast video card with better duel monitor support is what exactly what i'm looking for. I'll have to watch out for the Matrox cards when they come out ...

Whats the deal with the new Matrox cards that will be coming out soon then? I'm currently running a Dual Monitor system using a GF2MX card so i'm interested in their new cards coming out as their dual monitor support is very good so I've seen.

Quote: Wow, I thought I was alone here remembering (playing) Pink Floyd. Cool dudes aroun, apparently. Of the more recent stuff, Eurythmics, REM, Dire Straits, Jean Michel Jarre and on and on and on. OOOH, and the great one - Keith Jarret - H. I love the floyd they were the reason I took up the guitar a few years ago. Currently i'm trying to learn to play "Careful with Axe, Eugene!" but its quite hard (Dave Gilmours guitar playing is very good and i'm still way of doing it justice). I'll have to see how Roger Waters fairs up at Glastonbury this year, he's supposed to be good live. I've also been trying to learn some Doors songs but again I cant do it justice as Robbie Krieger the Doors guitarist is classically trained and some of his work is quite complex for me. Carl

Hi there, A while back I put up a post stating that I was having some problems with the reverb when entering rooms in Ghost Recon. I have installed the new version of the Creative SB Live! drivers and it still happends. Is there any fix to this other than turning of EAX within the game? Thanks for any advice given Merry Christmas & a Happy 2002 RandyC

Hi there, I have been using dreamweaver 4 ultradev with Windows XP for a while now and the tool bar becomes corrupt after clicking on it to change the font size. I have installed the latest compatibility patch and it hasnt fixed it. I am currently using det driver version 21.83 but I have tried the new drivers but have had BSODs using them so i reverted back to my old drivers. Does anyone know how to fix the problem with dreamweaver? RandyC

I'm just using the standard windows desktop (XP style). Just installed the 23.11 drivers with the VIA patch and the problem still continues. RandyC

Hi there, I have windows XP installed on my C drive and I have a removeable disk that had win98 and is assigned to drive D. I want to duel boot these OS's in the Loader, but I cant seem to get it to work. I have tried putting in d:\"Windows 98" in the boot.ini but it doesnt work. I have also tried the bootcfg command in the XP recovery console but its doesnt seem to detect the win98 install. So I am currently forced to change the boot drive in the bios to boot W98. If anyone can help me out here I would be greatful. RandyC

AlecStaar, I think I have found the tool that will do such a thing. Its called Bootpart and it can be found at: http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm As for the removable disk i'm using, it's a standard FUJITSU harddisk attached to a removable hard disk mounting in a 5 1/4 drive bay. I use it at uni to transport my files from my network drive to home. Its a little bulky but it does the job Hope this app helps RandyC

Yeah well I have tried that before and the recovery console bootcfg doesn’t detect my w98 install on the removable drive. I didn’t have my removable drive in when I installed XP originally but that doesn’t matter. I can’t make a bootsect.dos that way because I never overwrote the winxp boot sector as I have that on my 40gb drive. All I want to do is to be able to add the windows 98 install that’s on my removable drive to the bootloader. I have already tried to place it manually in my boot.ini file but with no luck. This is due to the removable drive not having a bootsect.dos file to boot from. Is there an application or a way of making a bootsect.dos file from a win98 install so I can add it to the bootloader. Thanks RandyC

Thanks for the replys. Just one question though how do I make a bootsect.dos file for the W98 drive? RandyC
