Anyone ever ran across this error installing XP or 2k? This is the same machine I ran 2k on for almost a year, nothing has changed except I had my mobo RMAed. Followed every suggestion in the kb but no help. http://www.kbalertz.com/redir.aspx?kbs=41092 *** Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support *** The system has halted ***

Did that (severial times lol).

I removed or changed every piece of hardware in it trying to trace the problem. Even put in a new 400w PSU. Maybe I was sent a bad mobo? I should add that it's been running Win98 for a couple weeks without a single problem. 98 sucks when you're used to NT. Why would 98 run and not NT?

Can all users on XP share the same TIF folder?
-
Am I the only one that can't find anything new about them?
-
You won't find one that will fix an error while Windows is running. Let chkdsk do it, it does a fine job.

I have my pagefile on a 70mb ramdisk set at 25mb min and 50 mb max. Anyone else tried this and if so have they noticed any problems or improvements? Before you ask why, just to see if I could.
-
The experiment turned out to be a flop. I never had any problems with the size of the pagefile but the ramdisk somehow disabled System Restore.

Can the Win2k Task Manager be replaced with the one from XP?
-
Have you tried turning off Norton and using the built in firewall?

Whats up with the cydoor.dll adaware found when I installed the lite version?
-
What size is your pagefile? How much Ram do you have?
-
100mb min & man with 512 mb ram. Never had an error and don't understand the need for such large pagefiles. Don't want to turn this into a debate tho just want to find out what everyone else is doing. I may be messing up.

One of the first things I install on my PC.
-
Yes. Just modify your boot.ini to get rid of the option to boot to XP. But you will want to keep it.

Suddenly for some reason I no longer have any control over my connections. From the folder I can't connect, view properties, make changes, nothing. No error messages but when I click something nothing happens. I can still connect from Interner Explorer but after connecting the lights don't blink green and show 0 packets sent and recieved no matter how long I surf. If I try to view the status by right clicking on the connected icon, nothing. If I try to disconnect from it I get an error message but it flashes on and off so fast I can't read it. So I cant disconnect without logging off. Help! 8)

Nevermind.

It will rewrite your bootsector but thats no biggie. You will be given a menu to connect to which ever OS you want at boot up. It will not affect win2k in any other way. The debate whether fat or ntfs is better will go on forever but hands down ntfs is better. Just listen to the gurus here and they will tell you why maybe.

As long as you choose new install instead of upgrade it will leave your 2k installs alone, put it on your third hhd. I would recomend doing your upgrading first though as removing a disk is going to give you a few headaches not related to XP but to duel booting.
-
Wish I had read this before I spent a hour trying to make it work. I didn't get that error message though, just wouldn't bring it up. Shame.
-
I think I will.

Undecided. I duel boot them both and use them for different reasons. I find myself on 2K more often but my family prefers XP. I like them both. If I had to choose....XP.
