    Hogs of War

"This program was not designed for Windows NT. Install will abort." The example in the doco (demoapp.exe) invloves getting a .dll error, but being able to run the application through to completion. From there we're just pin-pointing which fixes actually did the job, yeah? However, none of the layers currently help me get past this error, whether I'm running Setup.exe from its location on the cd, or from a copy of the cd on my HD. I ran it from a copy because I thought maybe it would matter that QFixApp can't write files (such as demoapp.sdb and Qfixapp.log) to the cd. Anyway, no cigar as yet. Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it.

Anyone else had trouble with this sample program that came with the toolkit?

    Myst 3 under XP

Well, I'm not sure whether it was Direct X, whether it was a patch or what, but it's working for her now. Thanks anyway guys.

CIV 3--won't even install 4 me

I may stand corrected, but I believe with Communism the corruption is based purely on number of cities rather than distance from Capital, which would explain why it's hard work to keep 200 economically viable cities . Not neccessarily an error with the patch. Probably just a different slant on gameplay. I believe it's entirely deliberate. Haven't played since I patched it yet...

I've had a go at using it now, but haven't had much luck with it. I may just be doing something stupid, but I can't even work through the demoapp.exe example properly. It says to run the app by itself, and then you get a Windows 95 error. (fine) It then says to run the app using the Win 95 layer and you get a .dll error, but the app runs though to completion. But I still get the Win 95 error. After labouring on that for some time, I decided I wasn't about to get Hogs working in a hurry until I'd conquored the demo.

    Myst 3 under XP

Excuse the newbie question, but I have a friend who's trying to get Myst 3 running under XP. Not running XP myself, I have limited knowledge on the matter. Has anyone managed to do this so far, and what's my best advice to her? Thanks all.

Actually there's a few things in there to weaken the effects of corruption. It was probably the thing that was most complained about, so I'm guessing they've done a bit of tweaking to it. * Corruption effects have been reduced. * Corruption calculations for Communism are now flat for the number-of-cities factor. * Police Stations now reduce corruption in the city they are built in. Apolyton is the best Civ site out there. I especially recommend the Strategy forum.

CIV 3--won't even install 4 me

Yeah, I can agree with most of that, although I have to admit I'm only on my second game. Been so busy! Btw, check out www.apolyton.net/civ3 for a list of what's in the patch that should be out in a couple of days. It should hopefully sort out a few things.

I think so. but to be honest I forget what I've used and what I haven't. Only just installed 2000, so I've been trying to get a number of things going. I'll give it a burst. Thanks for the feedback.

No probs running Civ 3 here. Top game. Btw, if you add "KeepRes=1" to Civilization3.ini, you can run at whatever your desktop res is.

    Hogs of War

Anyone managed to get Hogs of War running on 2000? I seem to be having no luck with the Compatibility tab that comes with SP2.
