    Overclocking problem

Overclocking is dependent on a lot of things - one of which is the operating system, but it is not the most important. You didn't mention the motherboard you are using. Before attempting to overclock any board, read the review on that board. Abit and Asus are spe[censored]ts at overclocking because they can isolate the raising of the front side bus from affecting the AGP and the memory. If the reviewer says your board is a poor overclocker, don't bother. The next thing is the processor. Your 2.0 P4 is not a good overclocker. The ones you read about the most are the 2.4 and the 2.8's - and then, those that came from a particular manufacturing site. Why? Sometimes, I believe Intel plays with reviewers by classifying chips as possessing lower speeds than what they actually are capable of. When chips are produced they don't have one belt putting out 2.4's and another 3.2's - these things are all produced at once and a chip (or a batch of chips) are tested and given an initial minimum speed. So, even if you have a board that is rated high in its ability to overclock, it will make no difference if your chip is a "bad" overclocker. Then, in relation to the processor is HEAT. You want to overclock, don't do it with stock fans. Even if you succeed with your boosting the speed even a little, heat will catch up with you with that chip. The main drawbacks to posting into the system are the memory and the video. You are changing the timing and timing is everything in terms of memory. You really do have to have good memory and don't be surprised at the heat that comes off of them. Again, if you haven't thought out how you are going to get the heat off the memory, you won't succeed. Worse, you may be taking a perfectly good unit and turning it into a boat anchor. Unless you want to play with this and the unit you are working with is good for experimenting, overclocking is interesting. If you are doing this so that you can play a game faster, think about buying a faster system altogether.

    Mystery System Tray Icon

If it is actually running in the background, Hitting CTRL-SHIFT-ESC will bring up the task manager to let you see what tasks are running. You can look through these to isolate those that you don't recognize.

Do you have the Google toolbar installed on your machine? Google has a background calculating program that runs whenever the machine is idle.

Rather than Norton's try something like Perfect Disk to see if your disk will optimize. http://www.raxco.com/products/perfectdisk2k/
  5. When you look at the IRQ settings, look also at what memory is being accessed. Both cards may be trying to use the same block of memory and it is the reason the Wireless card drops out. You didn't mention which set of drivers your are using for the SBLive card.

Having with online with client computer

Try to give us a little more information. You have two network cards - is one connected to a DSL/cable modem and the other to your laptop? Is this how you are trying to get your laptop online? Your best bet is to get a wireless router and set it between the modem and your host computer hardwired and then use the wireless aspect for your laptop.

Clock Changed on PowerBar Cold Start

Sounds very much like the internal battery. You will want to replace it since it is not holding a charge. Right now only your clock is affected but eventually many of the defaults in the BIOS will start to disappear.

about:blank spyware. Nothing seems to work

This will not fix the problem. But, apply this program. It is called SpywareGuard: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html Whenever the hijacking program attempts to take over it will alert you that your home page has been changed and asks if you want to keep the old value. Again, this will not fix your problem, but it will help you to live with it until you can track down the file that is doing this.

Anyone else with ideas for SIS 900 ethernet?

Are you wanting to connect through the ethernet? Is that what you are asking? What is it that you have done so far? Many cable/DSL modems have both sets of connections - USB and ethernet. How have you tried to connect to connect the modem to the computer?

    Problem Accessing Google.com

Go to a file called Hosts. It is usually located in \Windows\System32\Drivers\etc. It is a text file. You can edit the text. Unless you have gone in there and set up a lot of values, it will normally read: 127.0.0.1 localhost You can cut and paste what you find there to a regular text file, but you should reset it to that value alone to start with.

    Outlook Express 6 (import/export)

This is one way: 1. Open OE and go to Tools>Optins>Maintenance. Click on the "Store Folder" button to see where your messages are stored. Close OE6. 2. Go to Windows Explorer and rename that folder (e.g. Outlook Express-Old) 3. Reopen Outlook Express. Go to Tools>Optins>Maintenance again and click on "Store Folder". Then change the location where you want your messages to be stored. 4. Go to File>Import>Messages and locate the Outlook Express-Old folder to import your messages. 5. Restart Outlook Express. It should work.
  14. Right click on the IE icon and select properties. Then, click on the connection tab, then click on the Lan button. Make sure that he is not running any proxy and click on the box to select a connection automatically.
  15. You can reverse the above command by typing regsvr32 zipfldr.dll at a Command Prompt.

    computer HELL

    1) How are you connected to the internet? Are you using a telephone line connected to the 56K modem or is through an ethernet card attached to a DSL/Cable or a usb connection? The ambient temperature of the room is not always relevant when it comes to heat issues. The problem sounds like you are having a connection to the internet problem. You say the you are using "compaq software" to connect to your earthlink account. What "software" is that? 2) Right click on the IE icon and choose properties, then click on the Connection tab. Tell us how you are connected to the internet. How could you know if the earthlink total access software was bogging your system down if that is what you had been using previously? How did you know it was the culprit? What test did you perform made it culpable?

Thank you for telling us about the hardware, but I am more interested as to when the computer crashes. Is it only when you are on the web? How are you connected to the web? What browser are you using?
  18. Looked through some Disney stuff and found this page: http://disney.go.com/disneyinteractive/html/downloads/xp_download.html which also has some support addresses.
  19. I am sorry for not getting back sooner. Also sorry about the Active X component. What I should have typed was Direct X. Click on Start>Run and type dxdiag to see if there isn't a problem. You normally get this kind of error when DirectX has gotten corrupted. You can go here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en to get the latest DirectX runtime installer for 9.0c. No guarantees that it will fix it, but it will update DirectX which the game depends upon.

    Disable IE browsing

IE is so much a part of the operating system that "disabling" it would cause functions in the rest of the OS to become unstable. You can move the icon or disguise it, but you really can't "disable" it. You could tell the computer you are on a "Lan" connection, thus, you could right click on the IE icon choose the Connection tab and input a false proxy setting and tell it to never dial up another connection. This will give you the ubiquitous "Server cannot be found" message whenever IE's icon is clicked. (You will have to undo all of this to make Windows Update work, and you will have to use Firefox, Mozilla or Netscape and configure their connection to get out onto the net correctly).

    computer HELL

You really need to give us a little more information about this machine. Generally, however, when you have one that boots intermittantly, it can be due to a heat issue, a memory issue, or a video card issue. These are hardware related rather than anything you can fix with software. Because it is an HP you'd best take it to one of their service centers locally.

    Abit BE6-II and Geforce 4 mx4000 Problem

Your best bet on a machine that old is to forget AGP since it only emulates 2X. Get a PCI card - Nvidia has a 5200FX PCI card for that machine that works fine.
  24. Sorry that your query wasn't answered but the error message is rather standard for any application which fails to initialize. It really isn't that you have a corrupt kernel32.dll. It is just saying that the memory address it was expecting to set up its array was not where it was supposed to be. Anyway, what version of ActiveX are you running? Have you tried to disable your virus or firewall protection before initializing the game? What kind of video card are you using? All of these things can interfere with a particular application failing to initialize.
