You can use msconfig and tell it not to run at bootup. It is only a nicety for Video Conferencing.
-
See if there is a file on your hard disk called xpctspk.exe then change your registry to hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows current version\run xpctspk.exe. It seems to have installed the ME version.
-
The program PCTVoice is used by the modem to interface with your computer and also used for some V.80 functions for Video Conferencing. Not required in startup
-
Since this is happening mostly in web browsing, it may be that there are some scripts or java programs that are causing your video drivers fits. Make sure that you have sun's java virtual machine installed. XP supposedly didn't want to support it. You didn't mention what kind of video card you are using. It may be that in up[censored] the drivers for your video, you might not have some of these problems.

You should download InCD from Nero. Essentially, it will run in the background and make your CD act like a floppy. Two provisos. It defaults to UDF format so another computer will need a UDF reader to see the files. On some VIA chipsets InCD will not run.
-
Keep in mind that InCD defaults to a UDF format. So, if you want another computer to be able to read it, it will need a UDF reader installed on it. The nice thing about InCD is that it will treat your CD like a floppy.

It is quite slow for that machine. Gigabyte machines make a lot of Bios changes. Go here http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/home/a_bios.htm to download the utility that can update your Bios through your internet connection. Gigabyte also has its own "overclocking" utility: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/home/eztune4/et4_index.htm It may have come standard with your board. At the resolution that you are running that card, the CPU is still picking up the load. You might also check on the creative drivers. Despite the fact that it is Nvidia, creative does play with some things with its own software.

Wscript 5.6 was available for 98/Me/NT/2000. I had understood it was going to be part of XP. Maybe it wasn't. You wouldn't be running anything under Norton's would you? There is a section in Norton's that disables scripts.

You have probably already looked at it, but this is a tweaking guide for 3dfx cards: http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/voodoo3/index.shtml

If you have the nimda virus, it is the devil to root out, most particularly if you are using Office apps since it corrupts or exchanges its .dlls. Here are three places you might want to read further on it: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.a@mm.html http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimda.a@mm.html http://www.sophos.com/support/faqs/nimda.html

There are alternatives to Office. This one is free: http://www.software602.com/ . If you want to register it, several new components will be activated. The fee is very nominal. A second and quite elegant package is gobeProductive: http://gobe.com/products.html for $75.00. Its appeal is the site license which allows you to place a copy on your company's computers and allow those who work on it put a copy on what they use at home as an extension of their work. The point is that the talented people who develop this software ought to be encouraged by supporting them by purchasing their products. If you really care about the MS monopoly, put your money behind those who offer good alternatives.

Have you tried this card in another machine? The transparent capacity of W2K and XP sometimes is pink and blue shading. Are you running a third party program to do this? If you are, and you are running the card at lower resolutions, it will make your processor work pretty hard.

P4B-LX - more then 512mb of mem?Is it possible............
Sampson replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Hardware
Are you reading the amount of memory from the Bios directly? If so, either the second slot is not seated properly, or that slot is disabled. -
Take a look at this: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_771.htm You might have a minor virus

In Outlook Express, click on File, Export from the menu.

USB 2.0 drivers should be available from the Micorsoft Update page. From Intel there are two others: ftp://download.intel.com/design/motherbd/mv/USB2.0_5.1.266.0_WinXP_EHCI.exe ftp://download.intel.com/design/motherbd/mv/USB2.0_5.1.266.0_WinXP_QFE.exe I have seen it said to install the drivers before inserting the hardware is best.

There is no reason why you cannot. In fact it is rather typical. How much memory (ram) is installed on this machine? The more ram the better.

Make sure that the Teac has DMA support. Bring up device manager, click on the (+)next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Right click on Secondary IDE Channel, Properties, Advanced Settings, Pull down arrow for DMA support if available. Teac recommends that its burner be made the Master device on the Secondary IDE channel. Make your Sony the Slave.

I used Freelance Graphics in conjunction with Approach 97 in W2k. I have since upgraded to the Freelance 9.7. I never had a problem.
