Guest Posted October 25, 2000 Well after much headache, I have found that using tcp/ip exclusively on my home network works extremely well. Until I decided to use only tcp/ip I was having problems. Now, the only other problem is this. If I have two computers hooked up through a hub (10mbps), and i ran an FTP server on one, and a FTP client on the other, I SHOULD get like 2mb/sec transfer rate or something right? Well why am I only getting a measley 4k/sec? clutch 1 Posted October 26, 2000 Got the newest drivers? Try this, test the speed of your workstation in FTP by connecting to another machine. Then, try the same thing with the Compaq. It could be the card on one of the machines, maybe the hub or even the cable. Try these tests, and then give us the info. ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted October 26, 2000 I just did some testing with FTP on my LAN at home, and I get about 3.5MB/sec with my Win2K workstation and NT Server. Guest Posted October 26, 2000 Well just to let ya know.... it must've been my crappy nic card on my client machine because I just picked up a 3com 3c905 XL and it flies now. Getting about 600k/sec. I think it would go a lot faster too if my client machine was a little speedier. now i gotta just figure out why my managed software through group policy won't automatically install on my client machine (office 2000). I've followed many different microsoft walkthroughs. Well anyways, at least now I have a real network going. Thanx a bunch clutch for your continued patience and help. Share this post Link to post

Guest Posted October 26, 2000 It's built into win2k and I'm using Office 2000 as the software I want to deploy. The issue is that it's not working on my nt4 machine. (the deployment). Its suppose to install automatically on any machine in the domain upon logout/logon. Share this post Link to post
