bytemangler 0 Posted March 8, 2001 Can anyone recommend a good CAT5e for use outdoor? (shielded/unshielded). This will be run arially between building. thanks Share this post Link to post
Busby 0 Posted March 9, 2001 CAT5 + outside = BIG trouble. From what I have read CAT5 attraches lightning and such. I think you might be better off using a piece of fiber optics. Remember the limit for CAT5 is like 300 something feet, I think. Share this post Link to post
bytemangler 0 Posted March 9, 2001 Yea, I know about the lightning, I have ports get shorted out 4 times so far. Wireless sound good. I don't know how reliable it is with about 12 workstations though. Fiber was on the option list, don't know if they want to spend the money on it. Thanks all for the input Share this post Link to post
CUViper 0 Posted March 9, 2001 if you're just going between two building, you shouldn't have any problems with reliability. Don't go with a cheap home solution though.... I would recommend the Cisco Aironet hardware. We use Aironet at work to connect two offices about 2 miles apart, and it works really well... Share this post Link to post
