On June 26th Stephane Graber, on behalf of the release team, announces

the availability of Ubuntu 14.04 (Utopic Unicorn) alpha one for the

following Ubuntu flavors: Kubuntu, Lubuntu Ubuntu GNOME, UbuntuKylin

and the Ubuntu Cloud. He shares released notes for each flavor and

also writes: "While these Alpha 1 images have been tested and work,

except as noted in the release notes, Ubuntu developers are continuing

to improve the Utopic Unicorn."

Adam Stokes presents the community with yet another option for

installing OpenStack, the Ubuntu Openstack Installer available via PPA

from the Cloud Installer project in Launchpad

to use this installer, and goes over the basics of what it's doing

with Juju to accomplish a single-machine install of OpenStack.

Ali Linx of the Ubuntu GNOME team announces a couple of organizational

changes to the team. First that each sub-team in the project will have

a leader and acting leader to handle leadership tasks of the main

leader is unavailable, and secondly the creation of a Human Resource

sub-team focusing on recruitment of volunteers for the project.

The Lubuntu team reposts a blog post from the LXDE blog announcing

that the latest source code in our git repository can be compiled with

Qt5 which they're working to fix bugs in and notes that Qt4 will still

Michael Hall announces: "It was less than a month that we announced

crossing the 10,000 users milestone for Ubuntu phones and tablets, and

we've already reached another: 100,000 app downloads!" He goes on to

share statistics about the downloads, explains that all these

downloads are from folks who have installed Ubuntu themselves (since

no consumer version has been released yet) and reminds the community

that they're continuing to build the app development community through

their Pioneers program.
