td911 0 Posted April 19, 2000 This bothers the hell out of me. My PROGRAMS menu and FAVORITES continually need to be sorted manually. Does anyone have any idea how to automaticaly perform this? I used the following procedure on Win98, don't think it will work on 2K, but who knows? I'm to gutless to try it. Maintain Order in the Start Menu Are you tired of having to reorganize the shortcuts on your Start Menu and its submenus constantly so that they appear in alphabetical order? If so, you'll be happy to know you can force Windows to sort these menus automatically every time you turn on your computer. First, create a setup information file with the following information: [Version] Signature="$chicago$" [DefaultInstall] DelReg=DelRegKey [DelRegKey] hkcu,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder" Name the file Sortmenu.inf and save it in the Inf folder (usually C:\Windows\Inf). Create a Registration Entries file with the text shown in Figure 1. If your Windows folder is different, you'll need to adjust the text to reflect this difference. Name the file Sortmenu.reg. Finally, double-click the REG file to merge its data into the Registry. From now on, every time you start Windows, the Registry key that stores information on the order of your Start Menu shortcuts will be deleted. This deletion forces Windows to sort the Start Menu alphabetically. And there's a bonus: When you open Internet Explorer, you'll find that the Favorites menu is alphabetized as well. Thanks in advance. Share this post Link to post
DocSilly 0 Posted April 19, 2000 This is not the solution you seek ... I just right-click into the program group and select " sort by name " and everything is in order. Share this post Link to post
td911 0 Posted April 19, 2000 I know, but if ANY change is made (Program installed, LINK added) it screws up the whole works. I'm looking for a permanent and automatic solution for this lazy guy (me). [This message has been edited by td911 (edited 19 April 2000).] Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted April 20, 2000 I believe there is an option in Tweaki for power users that does that. I'm sure I used it once, and it worked a treat. Share this post Link to post
