80sgamer 0 Posted April 29, 2000 Anyone know how to do this i tried under device manager and it wouldn't let me. The reason i need to change them is i found out i have 4 devices using irq 9 and thats whats causing my system to freeze up or at least thats what creative labs says. They said they didn't know how to change the irq's in windows 2000 so now i have a solution and no way to impliment it. Any help would be great thanks in advance -80sGamer Share this post Link to post
dlgarman 0 Posted April 29, 2000 I'm guessing that you're talking about pci plug n play devices, if so the only way I know of to change them is to assign them using your BIOS. HTH Share this post Link to post
Dragon-Lord 0 Posted April 29, 2000 First, CL is full of ****...their W2K drivers suck and that is the first and foremost problem. Second, the multi-IRQ 9 problem is well documented on this board. Do a messageboard search based on your mobo name and it should come up with an answer. I believe you need a BIOS upgrade. I hope that helps. :} Share this post Link to post
ThePumpKinKing 0 Posted April 30, 2000 Bad news; I don't think there is a way to stop this IRQ Steering without reinstalling 2K. Creative is actually correct in stating that this IRQ sharing causes problems (especially if you're running a VIA KX133 and a Geforce) because I had this same problem and was told this by Epox. The reason this happens is this; your motherboard has reported that it is "ACPI Compliant", meaning Windows can pretty much do whatever it needs to with hardware/power management resources because it'll listen and comply. You need to have the motherboard shut up nad have NT stop listening. One thing you can try is to disable ACPI functions in your BIOS (under power manament), then delete the ACPI portion of your motherboard under "System Devices" in Device manager, reboot, and see if this solves it. If not, your only solution is to FDISK and reintall 2K. If you have to do this, here's what Microsoft Technet says about this: When setup starts (after files are first copied to your hard drive and you reboot) you'll see a message saying "Press F6 To Install A Third Party SCSI Or RAID Driver". When you see this, hit F7. Windows will silently (won't give you ANY messg. you did it right) stop looking for ACPI portions of the motherboard and let the BIOS do the IRQ Assignements. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but once you get this working right, you'll be very happy: Trust me..... Share this post Link to post
Noope 0 Posted May 8, 2000 Hi, 80sgamer. The post of ThePumpKinKing is right. You can not change any PNP IRQ in W2K if the ACPI is active. But do not install W2K again. Just change in the Hardwaremanager / Devicemanager the "ACPI Computer" in "Standart Computer". After some reboots the ACPI is disabled. If W2K do not change the IRQ after this, you can just change it in the Bios (PNP Menue) PCI1 IRQ10, PCI2.... CU Noope Share this post Link to post
Cardinal 0 Posted June 3, 2000 I have a similar problem to 80sgamer. My system is set up to dual boot win98 and w2k and under both os's my vid card (riva tnt2ultra) and soundcard (sblive) are both sharing irq 11. First I tried to disable irq steering - my mobo uses the via apollo pro chipset, (yeah, another problematic via I hear you say)anyway, that didn't work. So I did what someone posted, re-installed w2k with the 'f7' trick which means my pc is now listed as a standard pc. But they're still sharing. The Automatic settings tab is dimmed under my hardware settings making it impossible to disable it. My bios (the latest) does not have a PNP section. Am I royally screwed or is there a solution? (by the way, I also tried the same thing under 98 and it didn't work there either. Share this post Link to post
DocSilly 0 Posted June 3, 2000 Cardinal AGP has same IRQ as PCI1 and PCI4 (though the second PCI could also be PCI 5 or 3, depending on mobo) ... just put the SB Live in a different PCI slot and you should do OK. Share this post Link to post
bogga666 0 Posted June 11, 2000 I guess this is bad then? Hmm almost thinking of going back to Windows 98SE.... Share this post Link to post
DocSilly 0 Posted June 11, 2000 bogga666 That's a possibility, not every system likes to have all the important hardware on one IRQ ... some just can't handle it. The clean way to fix this is to make a new installation and during the first screens when it says "Hit F6 for SCSI RAID" etc hit F7 ... select "Standard PC" when promted from list and continue. The other method would be to go into Device Manager, select "Computer", change drivers and select "Standard PC" from list, reboot, all hardware will be re-initialized and hopefully settle on the right IRQ's ... I prefer the clean method ... but the other one is much faster ... up to you. Share this post Link to post
jkomkov 0 Posted June 15, 2000 here is a step by step resolution to the IRQ routing prob: 1. Disable P&P OS and ACPI in BIOS, if you can - if the option is not available try installing the latest BIOS update for your motherboard. 2. Reboot. Go to Control Panel - Hardware and double click on My Computer in the hardware manager. 3. You'll see ACPI - get into its properties and click to install another driver. When prompted, look under the Microsoft section and install the "Standard PC" driver. 4. Reboot. At this point Win2k will try and reinstall all devices on your system so install any drivers you are prompted for (have them all handy) and reboot. Finalise any drivers you may be prompted for on the 2nd boot and reboot again. 5. With all your drivers re-installed, take a look in hardware manager - and every device should have its own IRQ. Hope that helps you out... Jim "KDawg" Komkov Share this post Link to post
