Duall Boot Setup Problems

Recommended Posts

I already have Win98 on my system. I want to install Win2k on a seperate partition. I have two HD'S in my system. From the command winnt32.exe I start to load win2k. I choose the option to select my own partition for win2k. It goes to the windows 2000 setup screen for about 10 seconds and then goes to a blue screen that says STOP ERROR:INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. What could be the problem? I've installed the latest drivers for my mobo.

Please give us as many details as possible about your setup. Drive letters, where the drives are attached to, where is your cd-rom, etc. Where is Win98 installed ... space available on drives ...

I know after I format, DOS or Win98 DOS will LOCK the C: drive, I have to unlock it to be able to copy system setup files to it. To unlock it you boot from floppy or dos partition and type "LOCK C:" then say yes. This may be related to the problem you are having, doing this from a command prompt within Win98. I have installed Win2k mass times with all sorts of Partitions and OS's, am triple booting with 98se, Win2k and NT4. I setup Win98 first, then just run SETUP.exe from the root of the Win2k CD. Then it will prompt to install a new copy of Win2k, a couple of screens later you will have some options, click ADVANCED, then enable, Select system Partition during Setup, and Copy All Files to Disk. I always found this to be a full proof way to dual boot or triple boot. This way all files are on the HDD, then I dont have a problem with the first load up saying cant find CD because my drive letters changed, cause it found the NTFS partition...! Anyway thats my suggestion...

You will then have a boot menu asking which one you would like to boot into, works like a charm...
