Power Managment in Windows 2000

Recommended Posts

This isn't a big problem, but i'm curious about it. When i am logged in to windows 2000 and i leave the computer idle for a while the monitor goes blank like it should. If i ctrl+alt+del and lock the computer, the monitor will not blank no matter how long i leave it idle. Is there anyway to fix this or an explanation why? Not important, just curious.

The reason for this is when the screnn goes Blank, and by pushing CTRL+ALT+DEL u are exiting out of the Windows 2000 program code, and allows you to shut down individual programs there for Windows doesnt really run.

at times as well when u push ctrl+ALT+DEL you wont see nothing which is another prob, your system freezes. Dont worry about it and dont do it why push CTRL+ALT+DEL if your system freezes when the screen saver comes on chances are its the power Management

disable it in the Control pannel and Bios

Um, not quite. I lock my stations (at home and work) and the screensaver/power mgmt features kick in like usual. Locking the station shouldn't kick you out of the Win2K code or anything like that. It just lets you lock out the kb/mouse and blank-out the screen with a login prompt (that usually drops to the screensaver, then to any power saving modes that you have set). On my machines, I do have the screensaver set to lock the station when it kicks in, but I usually lock the station manually.

Same here...the only screensaver I ever use is the logon one when I reset and walk away

I don't use power management...I lock my PC, and turn the monitor off...and that's all that should be necessary for anyone on 2k
