Ge0ph 0 Posted February 11, 2001 So you gave up at ARS and thought you would come pimping over here. Share this post Link to post
Widow 0 Posted February 11, 2001 AlecStaar, thanks, that pretty nice. Ge0ph - go crawl back under your rock. Alec I have been playing around with scripts for startup of programs, still learning it but seems to work well so far.... have a look.. I found a nice program that controls your internet cache better than ie plus its freeware...here's the link http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/enigmatic/index.html the problem is it needs to be started with explorer(being the lazy person that I am I only want to click 1 program instead of two) anyway here's how create a script file with a vbs extension net.vbs contents as follows: set shell = createobject("wscript.shell") shell.mun "cmd.exe /c start /BelowNormal C:\cachesentry\CacheSentry.exe" shell.mun "IEXPLORE.EXE" now create a batch file to run it net.bat contents as follows: wscript net.vbs drop them both in your root directory and you can replace your ie icon with the batch file; now when you start explorer the cachesentry program starts first.... Then I just drop a new button on my taskbar and give it an icon. I'm just now learning vbscripting so I'm sure there is much more you could do, any pointers in that direction are appreciated...... Glad your here at the boards...... [This message has been edited by Widow (edited 11 February 2001).] Share this post Link to post
Widow 0 Posted February 11, 2001 Actually Alec I'm an old clipper programmer...does anyone remember clipper?...lol probably not...anyway after working with visual basic scripting for a few hours it seems very similar to clipper, at least to me. Its giving me some ideas on stuff that I'd like to write and rewrite, the only problem I see is that vbs has gotten a bad name from a few idiots out there who have nothing better to do than write malicious programs. In any case I will publish the source of anything that I write, I never expected to get rich from writing code, its just a hobby(doing it for a living is way to dam hard)....btw I like your apk nt tools, very handy.....if you would like some 2k tips to add let me know and I'll send you my text file that I have been collection for the last year or so.... take care.... felix 0 Posted February 11, 2001 I have one thing to say (without being a smartarse) - It is no wonder your machine takes so long to boot with all that stuff you have loading. If you didn't run some of those programs at all you would be much better off. I do have to ask about the use of a "virtual" pet. I think talking to my Labrador outside is a much better form of relaxation. But who am I to judge - to each their own. Share this post Link to post
Mike Zamarocy 1 Posted February 13, 2001 There is one time that the VB scripts might not be as useful as Alec's old style batch file - remember a lot of these damn viruses use VBS! And one tip I read somewhere was to disable all VB script hosts on your system. Worked nice on my old 98/ME machine. And then those who might be leary of any VBS scripts might not want it that way either - just food for thought . . . . Share this post Link to post
GOD 0 Posted March 1, 2001 From the Rules, Policies, and Disclaimers page here ... "Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this BB." Disregarding the fact that APK's software and ideas are pure bunk, you are pleased to have spam posted here? "If you're like me... you probably run ALOT of stuff at Windows²ººº " ... I am not like APK. Yet my machines can load upwards of 120 services without reverting to very ordinary dos scripts crippling a modern day OS with yesterdays legacy methods. Have some fun reading here ... http://www.3dfiles.com/3dboard/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=000467&p Widow, you should understand that your hero is a plagiarist, a copyright violator, and mentally disturbed. There is so much evidence in this matter that is a days work to just explain it. Plus there are rumblings of actions to bring this person to task for damages & other costs. clutch 1 Posted March 1, 2001 While I couldn't care less for the eternal batch loader, or using an app to load games at various priorities, I don't think that APK is out to harm anyone. He posts stuff here because he is trying to help people. I haven't seen him go out of his way to make rude comments or anything, so it's no big deal. At least he's trying. DeadCats 0 Posted March 1, 2001 I agree with clutch. I've seen Alec in action in 3DFiles as well as here, and he does nothing but try to be helpful to people. SHS, WTF did the sigs go? Share this post Link to post
