Sharpes 0 Posted January 14, 2004 As part of a student household I get my net connection through a server running Win 2K. We have been having problems, and now the PC simply won't do anything, and so I wish to install Linux to do the job. Anyone got any suggestions about how to go about it? Specifically what distribution should i look at, and will there be compatability problems with a usb DSL modem? Anyone know where to look for answers to these? BTW the PC is Celeron 500 (Maybe not the best start 4 gig hard drive 256 megs ram and the modem is a Draytek Vigour. Share this post Link to post
spacemonkey 0 Posted January 14, 2004 you might try either smoothwall or ipcop www.smoothwall.org or www.ipcop.org Share this post Link to post
Dapper Dan 0 Posted January 14, 2004 I can't make a suggestion from personal experience, but a Linux server installer guy I know really likes smoothwall. Share this post Link to post
Sharpes 0 Posted January 15, 2004 Thanks, I dled and setup (With a fair amount of help - lol) smoothwall. It's brillient, (Which is more than can be said for my spelling) so thanks for letting me know about it. Just one question, anyone know how to setup IP forwarding on it? Do I have to use Iptables (Scarey) or is there an easier way? Share this post Link to post
