Guest Posted September 25, 2000 Found out how to fix this... pretty simple... and obvious. just keep on hitting cancel and yes until it doesnt come up anymore. **smacks forehead** duh! ------------------ ********************************************** ---Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.--- ********************************************** Pentium II 450@504 4.5X112 128MB PC100 SDRAM Diamond Viper V770 Ultra Sound Blaster Live! Elian_Gonzalez 0 Posted September 25, 2000 Sadly, I've hit cancel tons of times... It just keeps on coming back. Thank fully, Whistler is stable enough, where restarts are few and far between. Sice I've gotten Whistler, September 19th, I've only restarted twice. My solution is just to leave the CD in the drive when I startup, its not that big of a deal. My only problem is, they should have a way to disable it. ~Elian Share this post Link to post
jdulmage 0 Posted September 25, 2000 and of course, the ruler of Whistler comes to rescue you... it's I, jdulmage, the one that will answer any reasonable whistler question...also ICQ me at 37985648 if you want to talk whistler.. Asking for CD eh? hmm..tough one to figure out...but the answer is simple.. the CAT files are expired in Whistler 2257, therefore, that protection error comes up thinking that your CAT files are invaild everytime you boot up...just wait for beta 1 and those CAT files will not be expired any further.. Thank you for your time!! ------------------ ------------------------- Because I can..... ------------------------- Share this post Link to post
thegrants 0 Posted September 26, 2000 You call yourself the ruler of whistler and thats you answer? Wait till beta 1 comes out---the ruler of Whistler comes to rescue you... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Ok here is a tough one for ya, Where is the start button?, oh ruler of whistler. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted September 26, 2000 If I get around to installing 2257 tonight and If I get that error I'll figure it out for ya. Share this post Link to post
jdulmage 0 Posted September 26, 2000 1 post? newbie? I think so.. I will just ignore your statement somewhat 1) You can't repair an expired CAT file, therefore, you have no choice but to wait for beta 1 unless my memory serves me right and I can remember how to disable WPF in Whistler. 2) Your smart ass comments will get you nowhere, I learned that. You will be owned by me if you keep it up. 3) Are you jealous of me? Because I can answer these questions on the spot? Yeah, I thought so. Anyone else want to flame him? ------------------ ------------------------- Because I can..... ------------------------- [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 26 September 2000).] Share this post Link to post
EddiE314 0 Posted September 26, 2000 ahh Yes thegrants, he pretty much is the ruler, when i have a question, i ask him, if you would have been reading the other whistler post then you would know that he answers all of the other whistler questions perfectly. Oh, i'd like to say that i've had no problems with whistler 2257 personal, thank you. [This message has been edited by EddiE314 (edited 26 September 2000).] Share this post Link to post
thegrants 0 Posted September 26, 2000 ummm.... dickhead, saying wait for beta 1 to come out is not what I would call answering on the spot. Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted September 26, 2000 First, everybody just ignore that thegrants character. No need to post any more replies dealing with him... waste of space. Back on topic... http://www.microsoft.com/HWDEV/sfp/wfp.htm#Disable This should disable Windows File Protection, and hopefully take care of that error. ------------------ ********************************************** ---Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.--- ********************************************** Pentium II 450@504 4.5X112 128MB PC100 SDRAM Diamond Viper V770 Ultra Sound Blaster Live! DosFreak 2 Posted September 27, 2000 I finally got around to installing Whistler 2257 (It didn't impress me much and I soon went back to Windows 2000 anyway I'm getting off-topic) I encountered the same error and here is what I tried: 1. Deleting the specific CAT folder. 2. Renaming the Timestamp file. 3. Disabling WFP. None of these work. I was going to try to copy the Windows 2000 versions over but seeing as how Whistler 2257 could not detect my Asus DVD (Probably a newer version of ATAPI in Whistler for some weird a** reason haven't verified it yet) or my network card (Geesh a Netgear that is supported fine with Windows 2000 and they remove it from Whistler???!!). I really didn't feel like patching Whistler with files from Windows 2000 heh yeah that would make sense. Wasting my time patching Whistler so it can work. I have other issue but I'm getting off-topic again. Anyways try copying Windows 2000 versions of those files over. Share this post Link to post
jdulmage 0 Posted September 27, 2000 if Whistler don't impress you now, it will in the future. Because, it's only common sense to like a customizable OS that is now or will be faster than Windows 2000, plus more. If you don't like it, you need to get a reality check and hope that the check doesn't bounce ------------------ ------------------------- Because I can..... ------------------------- Share this post Link to post
BaronX 0 Posted October 3, 2000 DosFreak- What did you think of the Whistler OS? Since jdulmage is so PRO for it, I just want to hear from someone else. Thanks! Share this post Link to post
jdulmage 0 Posted October 3, 2000 eheh...i'm not the only one, i have about 200 people backing me up on that. ------------------ Whistler is or will be better than Windows 2000, if you don't think so, get a reality check and hope it doesn't bounce. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted October 3, 2000 I too have issues with Jdulmage's statements but this isn't the thread for 'em. I might post my views later though when I get a Whistler beta. Whistler 2257 is still too early for a proper review. Share this post Link to post
