Whistler - New Thread

Recommended Posts

Yo everyone,

Thought we could use a new thread....just so jdmuldge can f*uck with us some more...what an ass...

Anyways....

Just downloaded Whistler off the MDSN site (you must have an account) and all I can say is WOW!

The install was a breeze, I was asked 2 questions and was given the option to change my network settings and that's it. At this point I have confirmed that my Geforce 2 card works fine using the 6.31 W2K drivers.

Q3,HL,Star-Trek Elite Force and UT work just fine,(still have more games to test) The look and feel of the new OS is much different than W2K. The desktop can be a little annoying but you can revert back to classic settings if you wish. All my hardware except for my SB Live 5.1 card was installed and is working fine. I'm going to try and install the 5.1 drivers and see if I have sound. If all goes well and my current games and apps will run on this new OS I may switch over, but I'm going to give it a good testing first. I'll post more info when I have done more testing. If you can get yours hands on Beta 1 I would suggest giving it a try but partition and dual boot rather than doing and upgrade or clean install.

Update: My SB Live 5.1 card and drivers are working great...Will have more test results with software soon....

Hey Ronin,

How big is the install?

i.e. what size partition is sufficient for Whistler.

jdmulage - that being the case, why didn't you settle the problem on icq rather than bring it back into this forum?

Don't worry about it.

JDULMAGE isn't an ass. He's a nice guy...really he is.

No, I'm not saying that because he *helped* me with Whistler...

I'm saying that because he's more helpful than anyone gives him credit for. Just look past his joking around..you'd see he's more useful than not

Inferno - I am not questioning jdmulage's helpfulness or how nice a guy he is or is not. I am suggesting that we try and establish a little civility on all sides (including those who criticize him) and kaibosh the flame wars and petty back-biting that has been more prevalent for the past few months.

This is the exact problem as to why so many people call you an ass. You will take a thread that someone posts about a hardware issue, and then the thread turns into a why I hate jdmuldge. I have a lot of respect for you it's just you can be an ass when it comes to threads people post. Let talk about why the thread was started and not why I offened you. I asked for your ICQ auth so we could discuss hardware issues I was not asking for it so I could flame you. So you do whatever you think you have to, but the bull**** needs to stop.

liveware 3 worked first got for me on beta1 (all iv tried). However, someone said they had a 5.1 working fully in whistler? It isnt bugged by the same limitations as win2k? I've been tempted to buy a 5.1 card (have a value at the moment), but have been follow the threads on creativs news server about the ac3 part of it (and all live's) not working in win2k, which rendered the extra 2 channels useless in win2k.. does whistler overcome this? All i really wanna do is be able to listen to be dvds in 5.1 without using a digital decoder.. the 6 analogue outputs woudl be fine. smile

Liveware 5.1 works just fine with Whistler, but you must have one of the new 5.1 cards to use it.
