David Planella reminds us that the Ubuntu Online Summit will run from

3-5 Nov 2015 from 2pm-8pm UTC which is three days of Ubuntu and Open

Source discussions, tutorials, presentations, demos and Q&A's.

Sessions include detail on app and scope development, cloud,

community, convergence, core and more. The summit includes a keynote

by Mark Shuttleworth, and a Q+A session with Canonical's CEO Jane

Silber.

=== UOS Session Roundup for Ubuntu Snappy Core ===

 

Daniel Holbach writes about the Ubuntu Online Summit, running from 3-5

November, providing a schedule (time and synopsis) of sessions

relating to Snappy Ubuntu Core. He notes that there might be last

minute changes which could affect the schedule.

=== Xenial Xerus is now open for development ===

 

Matthias Klose writes that Xenial Xerus (16.04LTS) is open for

development. In addition to discussing changes in 16.04, Matthias

mentions that Python3(.5) is standard as Xenial is hoped to be Python2

free, a glibc update and more. Matthias also highlights some common

errors made with Ubuntu development, such as necessary builds and the

need to test in both Xenial and Wily versions.

=== 15.10 Release Party result = Success! ===

 

Aaron Honeycutt shares photos and thanks from the recent 15.10 release

party in Florida at the Delray Tech Space. He writes that in addition

to an "awesome turnout" and "LARGE pizzas," they "also had plenty of

devices running Ubuntu Touch and even Plasma Mobile!"

=== This was the Ubucon 2015 in Berlin ===

 

Sujeevan Vijayakumaran writes about the recent Ubucon 2015 held in

Berlin. Lasting three days, he gives a day by day summary and writes,

"The schedule of the event did contain many Ubuntu topics - that was

different in the last years. We had 28 talks and workshops in 4 to 5

tracks." The event attracted 120 attendees and he concludes by sharing

some details about the plans for 2016.

outlines their general testing plans as well as the reintroduction of

=== Joint statement: Kubuntu Council + Community Council ===

 

The Kubuntu Council and Ubuntu Community Council have issued a joint

statement to clarify the status of the relationship between the

councils. They write, "Both councils would like to confirm that the

relationship is strong, and mechanisms are in place to ensure a

healthy and open relationship between both councils. We would all like

to point out that both councils collaborated and resolved any tensions

together." The statement concludes: "We would like to thank everyone

who supported the *buntu family over the last years and want to

restate: Our doors are always open if you have any feedback or

updates from weeks 43 and 44. Updates include organization of the

Christopher Tozzi, The VAR Guy, writes about the bundling of LXD,

Canonical's open source containerized app framework with the latest

release of Ubuntu 15.10. He shares that with ease of use and security

in mind, Canonical promotes the solution as making it "easier than

ever to set containerized apps in motion and step away" and promising

"hardware-guaranteed security" for applications running in LXD. He

concludes by writing, "Put together, LXD and Autopilot--both of which

are homegrown tools from Canonical itself--offer streamlined

orchestration and management for people using Ubuntu as a hosting

writing, drivers for AMD Catalyst were not working as expected.
