news 28 Posted December 23, 2015 With a lot to cover heading into the holidays – including the Linux Installfest at SCALE 14X, UpSCALE talks and a deal at the Sheraton Pasadena – we should dive right into this update (the first of many leading up to our event in January). Linux Installfest: SCALE 14X is once again hosting an event providing those who want to start using Linux an opportunity to learn how. SCALE's Installfest + basic system administration classes – two of them – are on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24. If you can't make one day, you can make the other. Training will be provided by the professionals at One Source Course, assisted by skilled SCALE volunteers. For the price of a Full Expo pass, attendees will learn how to install and administer Linux, and have time to tour the remained of the expo. For hardware prerequesites and more information, visit http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/14x/installfest UpSCALE Talks: There is still room for an UpSCALE Talk or two – UpSCALE Talks are held in the style of Ignite presentations offered at various O'Reilly-sponsored events where participants are given five minutes with 20 automatically-advancing slides. Those interested in submitting an UpSCALE Talk can submit through the SCALE CFP system – https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/14x/cfp – and mark your talk with the UpSCALE tag. Special Rate at the Sheraton: While the Westin is booked for multiple nights of SCALE 14X, the Sheraton Pasadena is offering a special rate for conference attendees of $159/night. Rooms are limited, so book quickly – to book your room, visit this link: https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/events/start.action?id=1512211212&key=2156BAC5 SCALE 14X, the 14th Annual Southern California Linux Expo, will be held from Jan. 21-14 at the Pasadena Convention Center.
