Red 0 Posted February 27, 2001 Can anyone confirm if windows whistler 2428 contacts microsoft when you connect to the web to verify the user Share this post Link to post
Eric Marques 0 Posted February 27, 2001 No but when you turn on your computer it tries to access something on the internet but i dont know what its doing Just disconnect your cable/phoneline from your modem until you install a firewall (I used Norton Internet Security 2001) Share this post Link to post
OLEerror 0 Posted February 27, 2001 This may just be a feature of the Beta so they can survey how many hours of testing have been done. Microsoft may be planning a huge "Thoroughly tested! Over 1,000,000,000 hours!" kinda push. This would provide them with those stats. Then again, they could just be copying the **** off of your hard drive. Share this post Link to post
RattDawg 0 Posted February 28, 2001 Yup be sure to have Norton installed before pluging in. Dont use the built in firewall it will still call home. Later Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted February 28, 2001 honehome == For those who are worried about the information sent to Microsoft from Whistler, try this... regsvr32.exe -u <drive>:\<windowsinstalldirectory>\system32\regwizc.dll Share this post Link to post

Vampyr 0 Posted February 28, 2001 Once again, who cares what is sent to MS. Its not like they're gonna go send a bunch of dudes in monkey suits to beat you up for pirating software. Share this post Link to post
