** When will we see 30TB RAIDPacs (https://www.high-rely.com/landingpages/largest_hard_drive.php?source=MC-2-1-2016'>https://www.high-rely.com/landingpages/largest_hard_drive.php?source=MC-2-1-2016) and 10TB HRC media?

------------------------------------------------------------

Every time a new, larger hard drive size is announced, our customers get excited because they can already do the math. Yes, a 10TB hard drive should mean a 30TB RAIDPac (https://www.high-rely.com/landingpages/largest_hard_drive.php?source=MC-2-1-2016) will be available at some point.

Seagate has recently announced two new hard drives: an 8TB (http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/08/seagates-new-8tb-hard-drive-is-for-all-you-digital-hoarders/) and 10TB (http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/seagate-unveils-its-own-10tb-helium-filled-hard-drive/) . Both are enterprise class drives and we believe that both hard drives use perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) rather than shingled magnetic recording (SMR, like Seagate’s current 8TB “Archive†drive), so the performance should be good.

We will be testing these new drives for compatibility with our equipment as soon as they become generally available. Pricing and purchase availability will be dependent upon when they are available in consistent production quantities and costs are reasonable for customers. This normally lags the initial release announcement by the manufacturers by many months.

However, we do sell our Highly-Removable RAIDPacs and media trays without hard drives. So, brave individuals who wish to ride the bleeding edge are welcome to try these new drives for themselves way ahead of the pack if they're willing to take the risk.
