Flickering and crashes on VIA and Geforce2 GTS

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm read in some of the posts, that some of your have the same problem that I have. That is my 3D games won't work. The image flickers and the computer hangs, when I try to leave the game. Same thing happens, if I test AGP in DXDIAG. Some suggested that it was the VIA-chipset causing the problem, and that you should install the 4-in-1 drivers. That didn't help. I've tried 4.26 and 4.29Beta. Anyone got it working?

My setup:

Athlon 800 on

ABIT KA7-100 with VIA KX133

Hercules Geforce2 GTS

Soundblaster Live 1024 Player

256 MB PC133 RAM

Realtek NIC

Pioneer 10X DVD Slot-In

its probably because you installed the VIA drivers. Wipe HD & reinstall XP, then install win2k vid drivers and NOT via drivers, apart from the 4.05vxd agp if you must, but i wouldnt bother. I found openGL performance with XP almost that of win9x and far better than win2k which for me was 50% slower.

I didn't install the VIA-drivers until I found out, that I had a problem. But I'll try a reinstall anyways.

you might wanna experiment with different win2k drivers. I orginally had a similar problem whereby the OS would hang when quitting certain apps, but using latest win2k beta drivers helped fix this

I know this is in the XP, but I had the same problem back in August when I tried 2000 with an Asus K7V and a Classic 750

The problem was in the VIA KX133 chipset drivers...

and this may be affecting you as well?

That's all I can add, as I went back to intel after that....but 3 days ago I built myself a Tbird 1.1 & A7V133 mobo with a GTS and 2000...and there were no problems..in fact, the Via drivers brought my 3dmarks scores up about 83 percent.

I had the same problem using the crappy Detonator 3 7.xx drivers. I recommend upgrading to 10 beta 10.50 drivers.

They worked on the flickering, but didn't help with the lockups. Gonna try a reinstall without the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. Thanx for the help

I tried those drivers in hopes it would fix my problem - stuff freezing up when I'm using OpenGL, namely Quake 3 and UT (I'm using that hi res texture patch and that needs to be in OpenGL)

Well the drivers look and run amazingly enough...although Q3 still froze on me for no reason. I wonder what's causing it? I know DX things don't freeze up or I would of noticed during my countless hours of playing Asheron's Call which is DX based. These 1080 drivers are the only ones I've put on my system. I haven't even bothered with the SBLive ones since I hear most people can't get them to work with v2428 anyways.

I had the same problem as you when i had my shatty gigabyte board. I switched over to an Asus P3V133 board and all my problems went away.

I have an Abit KA7-100 and never had a problem like this. So far I'm not screaming bloody murder because this is a beta after all, and an MS beta at that smile

It seems like I'm cursed. Those 1080 drivers made my DX progs slower and they won't remove themselves. Even the system backup didn't get rid of the 2 minute pause I get when I first try to hit the start button (the other problem I got) and I've noticed XP is more of a ***** to force it to look at something and install a driver from there and the vid driver on WindowsUpdate doesn't show up anymore.

BLARG

Considering a clean re-install of the os
