Summary: Updated tomcat6 packages that fix one security issue and one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having Moderate security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available from the CVE link in the References section. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop Optional (v. 6) - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux HPC Node Optional (v. 6) - x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6) - i386, ppc64, s390x, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Optional (v. 6) - i386, ppc64, s390x, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (v. 6) - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation Optional (v. 6) - i386, x86_64 3. Description: Apache Tomcat is a servlet container for the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages (JSP) technologies. It was found that the expression language resolver evaluated expressions within a privileged code section. A malicious web application could use this flaw to bypass security manager protections. (CVE-2014-7810) This update also fixes the following bug: * Previously, using a New I/O (NIO) connector in the Apache Tomcat 6 servlet resulted in a large memory leak. An upstream patch has been applied to fix this bug, and the memory leak no longer occurs. (BZ#1301646) All Tomcat 6 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches to correct these issues. Tomcat must be restarted for this update to take effect. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. For details on how to apply this update, refer to: https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 5. Bugs fixed (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/): 1222573 - CVE-2014-7810 Tomcat/JbossWeb: security manager bypass via EL expressions 1301646 - Tomcat 6 NIO connector memory leak [rhel-6.7.z] 6.
