Partially Installed windowsxp

Recommended Posts

When I boot up my computer,I have windows xp, Microsoft Windows (winme) and XP setup options. How do I get rid of WINXP all together? I have ahd two bad/partial installs that still linger on my system. I installed it to my E:\ partition. Going to get rid of it, and winme, put win98se on , then try to put winxp on as a dual boot again.

Any ideas?

Someone told me to get rid of the /windows dir, that didnt get rid of the bootup menu.

alright, let's use the E:\ partition.

Boot into DOS using the Windows Millennium Setup Disk. Switch to your C: drive, and type the following, pressing enter after each.

attrib -s -h -r boot.ini

attrib -s -h -r ntdetect.com

attrib -s -h -r ntldr

attrib -s -h -r bootsect.dos

don't worry if one of those files isn't there. Next, delete each of the above mentioned files

del <filename>

switch to the boot disk on A:\

type

sys C:

it should say "System Transferred"

reboot your system, it'll automatically load up Windows Millennium. You can then format the E drive with no problems.

Hope this helps ya, I've been gone for a while
