HP ScanJet 3200C problem with Windows 2000

Recommended Posts

(I posted this message to comp.periphs.scanners news group

a few days ago and did not receive any encouraging responses)

I downloaded the HP PrecisionScan LT 2.0 software released April 6, 2001,

from the HP Web site which states that the software works

under Windows 2000 and Windows ME and installed it.

I have had an electronic mail dialogue going with HP support for several

days, and hopefully they will eventually be able to help me out.

However, I am soliciting suggestions from other HP ScanJet 3200C

owners that are using that scanner under Windows 2000.

My BIOS settings for the parallel port are set correctly (IRQ 7, I/O 378, ECP + EPP).

I have tried different sequences of installing and un-installing the HP

PrecisionScan LT 2.0 software and connecting the scanner and powering it up.

If things go badly the HP PrecisionScan LT 2.0 software will not recognize

the scanner and eventually give an error message that says

''The default file is either corrupt or cannot be found.

Reinstall the scanning software. (2087)"

If things go well the HP PrecisionScan LT 2.0 software will recognize the

scanner and scan the document.

Usually the first time or two a scan is done after the software is

installed,

the software will successfully do Optical Character Recognition if text is

present and save the scanned image or OCR file to a chosen file.

After the first time or two a scan is done after the HP PrecisionScan LT 2.0

software is installed, the software will abend when trying to save the

scanned file.

Sometimes the software abends without an error message and sometimes a

message of

“hpprsclt.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

Your will need to restart the program.

An error log is being generated'

will appear before the software abends.

I cannot seem to find this error log being generated which is not in the HP

PrecisionScan LT 2.0 directory.

Is anyone else having these problems?
