Mugen C 0 Posted April 30, 2001 Hi There, I need some advises from you on which Tape Drive to pick for my NT4 Server....got 2 quotes from supplier: HP Surestore DAT24 Tape Drive, Model# C1555, $1204CDN IBM DAT 12/24 Tape Drive, (don't know which model), $870CDN My question is....HP or IBM, both have 3yrs warranty...similar performance (7.2GB per hour) which one should I pick...which one you are recommending? Thanks for your help! regards, Mugen C Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted April 30, 2001 Hi, How much extra is it to go for DLT rather than DAT? I'd recommend DLT over DAT every time if given the option. Actually, I was given the option and our HP DLT drive is excellent! Share this post Link to post
Mugen C 0 Posted April 30, 2001 Hi Bladerunner: Thanks for replying...the reason I need to go for the DAT is....I need to restore data from some of our old DAT Tapes. Thanks! regards, Mugen C Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted April 30, 2001 Ah ha!!! Well, in that case..... I'd probably go for the HP unit myself. Not because I've used one and can recommend it that way. Rather, the HP DLT drives have been very reliable - so I'm thinking same manufacturer, gotta be similar quality. Share this post Link to post
Greggy 0 Posted May 3, 2001 If you can afford it, I'd say skip the 12/24 DAT drives and get pricing on the 20/40 DDS4 DAT drives. I have found that the compression is VERY optimistic with DAT drives and its very easy to use up more than 12Gb on a PC these days, let alone a Server! Seagate have good pricing for 20/40 DAT drives (in Australia anyway) as they are cheaper than HP or SONY. IBM may also be affordable. Regards Greggy Share this post Link to post
