Win2k Pagefile ?

Recommended Posts

One of the things about Win2k that I've been trying to understand is how its pagefile is reported under task manager. I currently have 384 megs of RAM and I have my swapfile set to 20 megs, down from the 250 megs I originally set it at. I also have the DisablePagingFileExecutive registry tweak enabled which is supposed to keep the kernel loaded in memory rather than the pagefile. Yet when I check my task manager, under Kernel Memory it says total is 49 megs, Paged is 41 megs, and Nonpaged is 8 megs. When I look at my pagefile, it's set to 20 megs minimum and 20 megs maximum. When I check the pagefile.sys file on my drive, it's also at 20 megs. How's this work out? My mem usage is reported to be 107 megs with available memory at 257 megs. No matter how I do the math, this doesn't make sense.
