BladeRunner 0 Posted May 9, 2001 There seems to be a .vbs worm that's rather wild at the moment. So far today we have received it may times from 5 different sources. The e-mail comes through with a subject along the lines of: "Take a look at this great Homepage" It hs the attachment of homepage.html.vbs Of course if you've set your Windows box to not display the tail's on files you will see the file as homepage.html This is a very new variation, Symantec say you need the virus definitions dated 8th May (Yesterday) to catch it - it was only reported yesterday. Just a warning, I know everybody here will be sensable enough to have their virus products updated, but if you don't on a regular basis go and get yourselves updated!! Share this post Link to post
Bursar 0 Posted May 10, 2001 I heard about this. Funniest thing was I got an email from St Bernard software (they write Open File Manager - a backup utility) to say they have been more or less wiped out by it! And to think I'm using backup software from a company that can't teach it's employees about simple safe-computing practices ;( Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted May 10, 2001 hehehe. My NAV Gateway emailed me about this this morning. Stopped it cold. Muahahhhahahhhah! Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted May 10, 2001 We were quite lucky and I've actually got a user to thank for his quick thinking!! He got an e-mail from a trusted source but that company always send us e-mails along the lines of 'Dear Mr.xxxx' not 'Look at this page!!' He alerted me, I saw the attachment, within 3 minutes I had the latest virus definitions from Symantec, within 6 minutes the Anti-Virus Server has the latest definitions installed and within 10-15 minutes every single client was updated. We got some 25 instances of that e-mail during the day from various companies we deal with, 5 of them from one company Share this post Link to post
