NikeShox 0 Posted May 15, 2001 Does anyone have a philips acoustic edge sound card and play HL? my problem is that I only get sound out of one speaker...it's as if my right side is deaf...as i turn, the sound comes and goes. i've got the latest drivers for the sound card and HL, but it only seems to happen on HL and any other Sierra product. I emailed them and they were no help at all. (Did it say Windows 2000 compatible on the box when you purchased it, sir? man...they are a condecending bunch.) Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am somewhat of a W2k noob. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted May 15, 2001 Do you have a splitter jack so you can have both the fron speakers and something else plugged into it on the front outputs. I have a completely different card (Maxi Sound Forissimo) and I only get one side if Ive got two things feeding off the sound. I can hear it fine if I use headphones though... NikeShox 0 Posted May 15, 2001 since the philips has the proprietary cable into the sound card, i'm somewhat limited. So...i did try and use the headphones, to see if it was the speakers....no luck...headphones produce the same problem. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted May 15, 2001 HL is the only game your having trouble with, right? Now that I think about it my sound card does have a little wackiness to the sound with EAX and A3D turned on. Try playing around with that setting. I just got used to it, but now I might play around with that later on. I only notice it in the Black Mesa Inbound part at the beginning though. NikeShox 0 Posted May 15, 2001 If i go into the device manager, i've got these showing for sound... Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Devices Philips Acoustic Edge Audio Video Codecs That seems a bit much for video and audio...can the Audio Codecs and Legacy Audio Drivers be eliminated, as they might be causing a conflict? Brian Frank 0 Posted May 15, 2001 No, you need those for the card to work with media---unless you want to have a sound card and no sound. Leave the codecs in or you wont have them. Disable the legacy support, but dont remove it, otherwise Windows will reinstall them everytime you reboot. Share this post Link to post
NikeShox 0 Posted May 15, 2001 it wont let me disable the legacy issues....i've patched up to sp2, so i might try a clean install of HL again thanks! Share this post Link to post
