rpenfold 0 Posted May 19, 2001 I'm running an Athlon 1.4 with 512 Megs of ram. My problem started after I installed and ran a screen saver that I used on my old Win98 machine. Crash. I used the boot disks to get running again but now every time I start up I get a program error message, "explorer.exe has caused errors and will be shut down. An error log has been created." I uninstalled the screen saver but that didn't help. I tried to do the repair option with the boot disks but that didn't work. I think there is something corrupt in my registry but I don't know how to fix it other than formating. I'm really not comfortable with that sort of thing. Does anyone know row to restore a registry beck to normal? Share this post Link to post
Dan Cross 0 Posted May 19, 2001 Pop in the Windows 2000 CD and locate the Support\Tools folder. Run Setup.exe from here. Now run something called 'dependency walker' from the Win2k tools. Now, using this you can use it to search and it will show all files being used and hopefully you can find out what is causing error. Then take the action needed to resolve the problem. Hope this helps! Share this post Link to post
rpenfold 0 Posted May 20, 2001 Thanks Dan for your suggestion. I used 'dependency walker' but unfortunatly I can't seem to find any files that are related to the suspect screensaver. It looks like I'm going to format the partition thar the corrupt registry is on. Share this post Link to post
