PsychoSword 0 Posted May 25, 2001 I would like to create a shortcut for the newsgroup program on my desktop. It is for the file msimn.exe. I have Outlook 2000 installed on my computer and the problem I'm having is that when I double click on this file to get their instead of going through Outlook 2K and clicking on view--->go to--->news it will try to get me to register Outlook 97 as the default mail client. What variable can I put in the desktop shortcut so that it always opens it with Outlook 2K? I don't want to have to take the check out of the box so that it doesn't check this. Intlharvester 0 Posted May 26, 2001 Outlook 2000 adds an icon for a news-only version of Outlook express. The command line is "D:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews You should be able to set your newsreader and mailreader independantly in the Internet control panel. PsychoSword 0 Posted May 28, 2001 Sorry that didn't help by adding that to the command line. It still comes up asking me if I want Outlook 6 as my default email program. Share this post Link to post
suriel 0 Posted May 28, 2001 Try /newsonly instead of /outnews "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly Share this post Link to post

suriel 0 Posted May 28, 2001 Newsbin Pro is a far superior newsreader. You should give it a spin. http://www.newsbin.com/ Share this post Link to post
