Amnesiac 0 Posted June 7, 2001 Crucial is selling 256mb pc133 cas 3 ram for 59.35 and well I think i'm going to finally make the jump from 128mb pc100 lol, But I don't wanna have how you say "ram thats not up to par" so will I even be able to tell the difference between cas 2 and cas 3 latency? -Amnesiac Share this post Link to post
EM 0 Posted June 7, 2001 I can't tell on my systems without a benchmark to prove it. I have purchased the faster ram just to see if it made a difference and haven't been able to tell "by the seat of my pants". No difference that I can tell. Ed Share this post Link to post
GTwannabe 0 Posted June 7, 2001 Not enough difference to justify the extra expense. I recently bought a stick of Micron 256mb PC133 from Computersupersale.com for $46. They've got it on sale for $40 now... The generic stuff is only $30! Gotta love falling RAM prices Share this post Link to post
hardwarecrazy 0 Posted June 8, 2001 Makes a lot of difference in moving up from CL3 to CL2. Use SiSoft Sandra to benchmark results, before and after changing to CL2 - you will see substantial improvement in CL2. Share this post Link to post

I can't, but I can see the difference in the Sandra benchmark. Is it faster in real life or only in Sandra Benchmark? Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 8, 2001 It's faster in benchmarks alright, but not in real life. If you've already got enough ram, you'll do fine, since Win2k runs better with more ram than the speed of ram, although faster can't hurt. Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted June 9, 2001 Most standard 133 Mhz Sdram can now work at Cas 2. My computer uses 3 x 256 Mgs at 143 Mhz, 7 ns, 2-2-2 bought at regular prices. The Windows 2000 memory sub-system is so very efficient that the speed improvement is just only perceptible. Share this post Link to post
Amnesiac 0 Posted June 10, 2001 My friend got 512mb of ram pc133 cas 3 and his crap flies, it is 1.2ghz...but still......I was hoping to get that with my setup.. -Amnesiac Share this post Link to post
