ozy 0 Posted June 18, 2001 Ok, i've recently installed service pack 2 for Windows 2000, and found that it's shared all my drives.. so I turned them off.. now, i'm not on a network, I don't even have a network card in my PC, yet Windows 2000 in it's incredible wisdom, instantly re-shared the drives after a reboot.. so: 1) Why is it sharing my drives? 2) Why does it continue to share my drives even after telling it not to? 3) Has anyone else had this problem? and if so, are there any workarounds? My friend also has the same problem.. Thanks Ozy Share this post Link to post
OLEerror 0 Posted June 18, 2001 Are the share names something like C$ ? If so, this is not a problem. What you are seeing are the system shares. The $ tells Windows to make them invisible from the outside, so there isn't any concern about this opening you up to hackers. These are necessary shares that Windows will recreate irregardless of how many times you remove them. Share this post Link to post

Busby 0 Posted June 19, 2001 There is a registry hack that disables those shares. If you want it either post here or email me at busby1218@charter.net Share this post Link to post
