Beeker50 0 Posted June 23, 2001 Will Win2K Server automatically recognize that it is a dual CPU motherboard system or do yo have to specify it before setup in the F5 command at the begining of the installation? If you do have to use the F5 function, how do you go about installing 'Third Party SCSI drivers- Press F6' at the begining of setup? I am trying to install my ATTO UL3D Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID card on my new Tyan Thunder K7 Dual Socket A motherboard running Win2K Server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Intlharvester 0 Posted June 23, 2001 In every case I've seen, W2K/NT detects SMP motherboards even if only 1 cpu is installed. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 24, 2001 Yeah, I've got a dual board but only 1 cpu right now, and Win2k detects the system as a uniprocessor system. For the SCSI, you need to have the txtsetup file and the drivers for the OS on a floppy and feed it when it calls for them. Share this post Link to post
ValkyerieK7 0 Posted June 24, 2001 If push comes to shove ..re install because the HAL needs to be re established. . The easiest way is to do this under device manager and change teh computer type Share this post Link to post
Intlharvester 0 Posted June 24, 2001 For reference, see the HAL types in http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q234/5/58.ASP. Note that "ACPI UniProc" is actually a SMP board with 1 CPU installed. You can verify this by getting the old NT bootscreen with "/SOS /BOOTLOG" in the boot.ini. Ever case I've seen, multiproc boards are detected automatically, although I've never tried with a dual AMD... Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 24, 2001 I'd guess that 2 AMD cpu's wouldn't make a diff. The PIII system bus is different than the Alpha system bus used by AMD on the Athlon/Duron, and that might make a difference, but I really don't see how that would affect it. Then again, this is the first AMD dual cpu venture, so whatever worked for Intel might not work for AMD. Of course I could be wrong... Just my 2 cents... Share this post Link to post
