Brian Frank 0 Posted June 25, 2001 Okay, I've got an MSI 694 D Pro-A with the original BIOS for the mobo and the Promise PCD 20265 ATA100 controller with the FastTrak "Lite" BIOS. Here's my problem: I was trying to add an older 4.3 GB hdd to what I already had, and it wasn't going well. So I thought by deleting the array with my 17.2GB drive, it would reboot, and then I could reconfigure it no problem. Wrongo! I have no arrays, and I am not sure how to get this to work again. I know I just did something stupid, but I have no clue how to fix it. All the hardware is fully operational to the extent of my knowledge. The board has a Lite BIOS with a very, very limited RAID capability--Striping and that's it. However, I'll just be happy to be able to boot off my 17.2 gigger. Thanx for any help! sapiens74 0 Posted June 25, 2001 I have the same Raid chipset, tho a different board. Try to hit ctrl-h when the raid message shows during boot and then hit build array. If there is one, then delete it , then reboot and rebuild it. Hope that helps Share this post Link to post
CrazyKillerMan 0 Posted June 25, 2001 man u may have lost all your data. If i understand right you got rid of the raid array??? or you wanna use the old drive with the 17.2 gig in a stripe? Everything is a little unclear. Like sapiens said, you can rebuild the array, but if your using an older hard drive with the 17.2 gig one, i wouldnt recommend it. The size of the partition will go down with stripe...to a max of 2 x the smallest drive. Also the speed will depend almost completly on the weakest link (no plug). Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 25, 2001 I'm not quite as concerned with this system, since it's my secondary system. About deleting the array: I just deleted it in the RAID bios, and that BIOS says it's free... Hmm...maybe I should try running the repair option on the normal IDE drives... That thing about screwing up the drive gave me that last idea. This is the first time I've dealt with RAID, and I'm kinda clueless on this as the mobo manual doesn't really discuss the RAID bios at all. Well, alright...I have somethings to play around with Thanx for the help you two. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 27, 2001 Well, I checked with the store I got it from, and the tech said I lost my data. Oh well, it not my main rig anyway, plus, I don't have a ton of stuff on it to begin with. Trial and error in this case. Thanx for the info. Share this post Link to post
CrazyKillerMan 0 Posted June 29, 2001 np I am kinda new to raid myself, but i have a promise fast trak 100. Running it in stripe ive gone for about a month without anything going wrong, but if it does all i need to do is re-install everything as i created a bat file to back everything up every day at 4am. I back it up to another HD i have. Rule of thumb appz to array data to fixed/mirror At promises site you can dl the manual for the fastrak 100 in pdf format. I would kinda suggest doing this as it is WAY WAY better than my previous raid card (IWILL) that i could never get to work and it discusses pretty well everything you need to know about raid 0,1,and 5 as well as SPAN. (Store got thier card back tied to a brick, via thier front window ) Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted July 1, 2001 Silly me! Y'know what the problem was? I didn't hit Ctrl-Y in the BIOS to define the array. Now I hate myself. Share this post Link to post
