BladeRunner 0 Posted July 4, 2001 All, So, what alternatives are there for the SB Live!? I'm currently replacing my brothers old PII 300 with a Celeron 733 based system. Due to the 815 chipset, re-fitting the AWE-32 soundcard isn't an option - thankfully ISA slots have been ended!! So, if I want a PCI soundcard that offers good Win2k/9x support but also offers me the likes of EAX, is the SB Live! the only option? Ta Share this post Link to post
ValkyerieK7 0 Posted July 4, 2001 Hey Bladerunner remember how k6III in hardware central would often yell out one sound card, and that one card would be the santa cruz by turtle beach Share this post Link to post
GTwannabe 0 Posted July 5, 2001 SBLive! works just fine if you have the 5.12 (or whatever they're called) drivers. Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted July 5, 2001 the SantaCruz is a nice card because it even has beta drivers for XP out now too. This is a great effort on that company to show that they are willing to support any OS as long as its feature complete, and its great to have working EAX in XP. Share this post Link to post
Busby 0 Posted July 5, 2001 Supposedly the Hercules Game Theatre XP or whatever is a nice card, has a box you hook up where your connections are made, it's pretty cool from the reviews I've ever. Even has Dolby Digital 5.1 support I believe. Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted July 5, 2001 Oh don't get me wrong, I love the SB Live!, I have one in my system and don't have a single problem with it, but as I was going to have to buy a card for my brother's PC I thought I'd see what else is out there :-) Having some difficulty sourcing a SantaCruz. All the UK companies that list 'Turtle Beach' as a manufacturer only list the Montego cards not anything called SantaCruz :-( Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted July 5, 2001 Voyetra Turtle Beach (VTB) Santa Cruz and the VideoLogic SonicFury are identical from a hardware perspective. What differs is the name, the bundle and the distribution. Turtle Beach and VideoLogic have agreed to a cross-distribution alliance. Turtle Beach will distribute five models of VideoLogic speakers in North America, while VideoLogic will distribute the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz™ audio accelerator in Europe and Australia. Just like in Directsound benchmarks the Live completely freezes the game for several seconds every now and then but is faster when it’s working. Until Creative fixes these errors (maybe in their last driver set) it’s no question that the Santa Cruz/SonicFury offers a better experience in Windows 2000. http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/reviews/SonicFury/SonicFury.html Share this post Link to post
