evil Homer 0 Posted July 7, 2001 I have an Abit KT7-A RAID board with an Athlon 1.2 ghz. When I recently tried out build 2485/6, I noticed like a few people that the system became really sluggish. Finally traced it down to the Highpoint drivers used for the RAID. Well, to cut a long story short, this problem still seems to be here. Any heavy access to a drive on the RAID causes sound problems, sluggish mouse control and just general slowness. Has anyone tried out the new Highpoint drivers just recently released to see if they correct the issue? Basically I have the layout of my machine like this, so its not easy to move games and so forth around... IDE1 master: C Drive (NTFS) with Windows 2000 SP2 (Maxtor 16gb ATA 66) IDE1 slave: E Drive with Panasonic 8X DVD IDE2 master: F Drive with HP 8100 CD-RW Drive IDE2 slave: G Drive (FAT32) with Windows XP RC1 (Maxtor 6gb ATA 33) IDE3 master: D Drive (NTFS) with games etc etc (Maxtor 28gb ATA 100) IDE3 being the RAID. FadedTimes 0 Posted July 7, 2001 I have a Maxtor (Promise) Aultra ATA 100 controller and I'm getting preformance no better than UDMA 33. I have a ATA 100 5400rpm drive on IDE1 of the card and a ATA 66 7200rpm drive on IDE2. In windows 2000 I would get better than ATA UDMA 66 preformance, but now in XP it is slow. When I installed XP it detected my card as a Promise IDE controller and I thought maybe it was just bad Microsoft drivers, so I installed Maxtor's drivers and got the same results in tests under Sisoft sandra 2001te pro. I also noticed it when just copying files from one drive to the other. My next step is to try Promise's drivers, but I think it is maybe the OS. Share this post Link to post
