Daedalus 0 Posted July 10, 2001 my system: duron 800@1000 superorb geforce 2 pro 32mb (240/400) asus a7v-133 384mb ram seagate barracuda 3 30gb winme drivers: nvidia 12.41 official via 4in1 431 (also tried 432 no diff) liveware 3 for win2k direct x 8 giants 1.4 patch a few weeks ago with winme my cpu runs seti for hours straigt and the MAX temp is 55c, i then installed win2k, but didnt like it cause d3d games were slow and returned to winme. after installation of winme if my duron is clocked at 1000 when windows loads it will say cant acess registrey plrease repair, i can end task this, and the system will work but then explorer illegal operations become very common. and many games wont work. at 992mhz the system is ok. does anyone know y this is? cause my duron was at 1000 b4 thanks Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted July 10, 2001 Maybe ram acting up due to overclocking or bios timings. Often ram must be slowed to facilitate overclocking. Sometimes a reasonable Vcore increase can compensate. Or maybe the Via drivers acting up. Share this post Link to post
HELLBRINGER 0 Posted July 10, 2001 Hey man! You got the same CPU overclock as me. Duron 800 @ 1000. I had that error sometimes too in Win2k. But D3D games arent slow for me, at least I dont think so. The error went away after I returned the CPU to normal speed for a day and let Win2k run through with it, and then re-overclocked it back to 1000 everything worked fine. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted July 11, 2001 Most Duron 800's can hit 1GHz without a problem, but not much more. I did a little different approach to my D800. Multiplier at 9.5 x 107MHz front side bus=1016MHz, and since my ram is PC133, I set it to run at 133MHz instead of 100. I'd love to increase the FSB higher, but using both the multiplier and the FSB together limits the potential of both. This is the highest I can get regardless of what I do. Anything else is unstable, even with the max voltage, and I'm not in the mood to modify the board to pump out more juice. My vcore is 1.75 volts. I can bump it up more, but that doesn't help any after that. Also, yeah, the ram timings can cap your OC pretty quick. I had to drop mine back to 3, and since I was able to get more performance by doing so with the overclock it was worth it. I've been running it like this for the past several months and had it on almost constantly without lockups. In my experience, ME has been a pain in the *** to use, and Win2k ran better and ran all but my dos games. For me the best nVidia drivers have been the 10.80's with my GF2 MX. I played around with a few other versions, but these worked the best for me. I'm not totally certain, but the SBLive!/Via 686B southbridge combo could be a cause. Some people have had issues with it and some have not. Share this post Link to post
HELLBRINGER 0 Posted July 12, 2001 Yeah we are there too. I have a similar system as both of you. I have noticed overclocking seems to be at its peak with my system. Although I am running my RAM at CAS2 no problem cause it is CAS3. But it is high quality Micron/Crucial memory. I agree WinME is a total pain in the arse! I have the same situation in Win2k I can run it practically for ever without it ever freezing. It is rock solid stability. I am very happy with the way my system turned out. 10.80 drivers are the best, other ones have minor stability issues and some have screwed up things in my resolution. Like i belive the 12.00s when I'm at 1152 X 864 and I click on advanced my screen will go completely blank because it trys to set a refresh that is too high I think. I have a SBLive! and that thing was a TOTAL PAIN IN THE ARESE... After days of screwing with it I think I finally worked the kinks out. It is working seamesly now... I still hate the card it does not have very good sound quality. Although I am an audio expert and have an aiwa stereo system that I spent lots of money on so I find the SBLive, well, a joke. Daedalus 0 Posted July 12, 2001 how did u fix the sblive prob? the official via 686b fix doesnt make a difference Share this post Link to post
HELLBRINGER 0 Posted July 12, 2001 Well if I remember correctly... LOL... I just screwed around with re-formatting and reinstalling drivers until the damn thing worked. The 686B patch did nothing for me as well. I did not give up on getting my SBLive! to work good because I cannot stant the shitty quality of the AC'97 on my Epox EP-8KTA3. My friend gave up on it and kept the AC'97 and gave is sound card away. I didnt really do anything specific, and if I did, it was too long ago to remember. Sorry I cant help more... Try messing with it and re-formatting until you get it. Good luck. Share this post Link to post
