David here 0 Posted July 23, 2001 My old WinME setup would go from "turn on the power switch to desktop in about 35 seconds. W2K takes about 60 seconds to do the same. Is this a quick or slow boot-up ? Is there ANY way to make it noticably quicker ? David Share this post Link to post
rgodart 0 Posted July 23, 2001 It's a normal bootup, and there is nothing to do about it i'm afraid. Share this post Link to post
AndyFair 0 Posted July 23, 2001 You could try disabling some of the non-essential services, but that would only shave off a couple of seconds off the boot time. Like rgodart says, there's nothing you can do about it - just learn to live with it. On the upside, I find that the bootup time is just long enough to pour a beer (unless I'm at work, in which case it's just long enough to go and get a cup of coffee ) AndyF Share this post Link to post
DavidNewbould 0 Posted July 23, 2001 Win2k is the slowest thing i have ever seen boot Jeez, linux is faster XP boots in about 15 seconds, to logon screen, after entering password, about 3-4 seconds to fully loaded desktop. Share this post Link to post
Four and Twenty 0 Posted July 23, 2001 i think NT4 was slower to boot than 2k Share this post Link to post
Almghty 0 Posted July 25, 2001 really? i haven't seen XP but i thought 30-35 secs was great in win2k mine might even be lower ..25 perhaps. the thing that helped me speed up was allocating a static ip address to my nic .. i have a via chipset so i got all the proper stuff correct ata100 drivers and that was what sped it up. yakkob 0 Posted July 25, 2001 NT4 is definatley a ballache when it comes to booting up. Hell, its quite easy to become an alcoholic waiting for NT4 to boot up Share this post Link to post
CrazyKillerMan 0 Posted July 25, 2001 HAHAA nice touch yakkob its true though Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted July 25, 2001 Some devices can prolong boot up some times, SCSI being one example, but not always. Share this post Link to post
Four and Twenty 0 Posted July 25, 2001 my raid bios is kinda long but i haven't rebooted this thing in two weeks so i kinda don't care either. Share this post Link to post
pmistry 0 Posted July 29, 2001 at least with Win2k you won't have to reboot too much, I mean with WinME you probably rebooted a couple of times a day! Share this post Link to post
illusionist 0 Posted August 1, 2001 Well after reading the replies to this post curiosity got the better of me and I shutdown and timed my start up. A few things have come to my attention. 1) My start up complete came to 2 min 29 sec. 2) 60 seconds would be like the jump to light speed for me 3) I can get a coffee , newspaper from the corner variety store, and learn to play "Rapsody in Blue" during my boot time. 4) and yes you could become an alchoholic..........Burrrp! Sorry must go; I'm going to reboot now and during the process find the nearest AA chapter. Share this post Link to post
